WWD 027 is here! This edition brought to us kindly by one of our favourite Italian producers, Fabio Giannelli. Fabio has released on the likes of Suara, OFF and many times on Get Physical. These productions are always top quality and we heard evidence of this again recently upon release of his first album, Corundum. The album was released on his new label Perpetualis and received huge feedback. Trust us, well worth getting a copy.
After listening to his mix he’s done for us, it’s safe to say his mixes are produced to the same high standards. So click play, get lost in the music and have a read of he had to say to us below. Enjoy!
WWD : Thanks for taking the time to talk Fabio. Where are you chatting to us from today and what’s happening where you are?
I’m in Lecce, Italy and the sun is shining.
WWD : You’ve been releasing music on big labels like Suara, OFF Recordings, Get Physical Music and more for many years now. For people that may not be familiar with your sound, can you tell them how you got involved in production?
No particular process. I felt the necessity to start producing my own tracks very soon and a big desire to share them with people. Then I got some labels who appreciated my early productions and decided to release them. For me has always been all about the music, I’m not an event organizer, a club owner or a PR. I know this could be a longer and harder way but I’m still happy with it.
WWD : You recently released your first album, Corundum. We loved it! What did u set out to achieve when you started curating it?
Happy to hear you loved it. An album is always a tricky thing…if you want to see it as a tricky thing….and if you expect to change the world with it. But hey…I’m just a guy who likes to produce the music he loves, and sometimes(most of the times to be honest) I’m very critical with myself….to the point of saying to myself my own music is pure shit.
I wanted to create an album to translate all my different shapes in one place. Over the years I’ve always been eclectic and I’ve never been focused on one particular genre, keeping a large spectrum of possibilities. It can be tricky if it doesn’t come out natural, but in fact I produced it in just three months….but after 1 year without producing anything.
WWD : The LP was the first release on Perpetualis. I believe this is a new venture of yours. Can you tell us a bit about your plans for Perpetualis?
As the name suggests, the label will be in constant movement. I really want to keep it open minded.
WWD : What are your plans for the summer season? Do you have more music on the way for us or will you be spending time behind the decks this summer?
I have a lot of interesting projects to finalize so I’ll be spending a lot of time in the studio. No gigs on the horizon at the moment but I’ll be back on the road very soon!
WWD : Can you give us one track you feel will make a big impact this Summer?
I have many and it’s very hard to choose…sorry
WWD : Finally, we were delighted to get you on board for our podcast series and we loved your mix! Real nice flow to it. Can you tell us a bit about it?
I don’t like to talk too much about my music and my mixes, I like to record them….and it has been a real pleasure to record this one for you! 🙂
