Tech trio Premiesku are the latest big name to grace Ralph Lawson’s respected 20/20 Vision imprint. The Romanian producers have delivered a top quality new EP in the form of ‘Jojoman’ and we simply couldn’t resist getting the lowdown on the release. We talked Why 20/20 Vision?, Creative processes, the new live set and much, much more! In addition, the boys have shared an exclusive premiere of digital exclusive ‘Life Tool’. It’s all below, enjoy!
WWD : Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to chat!
Your new EP is out now on Ralph Lawson’s 20/20 Vision. Where did you put the record together and what attracted you to signing with the label?
The EP was made in our studio in Bucharest, its was a sequence of sessions and every session was totally different in the process of making, thats why the sound of the three tracks is so different one to each other.
We’ve always had a lot of respect for 20/20 Vision and all the amazing music they’ve put out throughout the years, so having the opportunity to put our stamp on the label was an honour for us!
WWD : You’ve shared an exclusive stream of “Life Tool” with us today, can you give us an insight into the creative process behind the track?
Life Tool its just us toying in the studio with our gear, and it was made a really long time ago. Somewhere around 2008 actually 🙂 We really liked the vibe of the groovy start created from a combination of synths and electronic percussions. Also the accents that were created were interesting and groovy. We kept this in a repetitive direction and then we came up with some delayed trippy sounds, some little breaks and then just starting again with the tooly groove 🙂 We completely forgot we finished this track years ago and was a totally random discovery. So happy to see something so old being appreciated today and perhaps sounding a lot more relevant than if we were to put this out 7 years ago.
WWD : One thing you’re learned from putting this EP together?
For sure we learnt not to underestimate any track we’ve made. We might not feel like sharing a certain piece of music around the time of creating it, but maybe one day a great label comes around years later, really believes in it and wants to put it out 🙂
WWD : You’ve had an action packed start to 2015, what have the highlights been for you so far?
We had some of the best gigs so far in this beginning of 2015. We started the year with really awesome gig with tINI and the Gang at BPM, also the WMC Used & Abused was bomb, but one show that was particuarly exceptional, was Fabric couple of months ago. We had a such a good vibe from the crowd there! Absolutely killer. We love playing there!
WWD : Your live analogue only act has caught quite a lot of attention recently, can you tell us a bit about the concept behind it?
It is quit simple for us, together in the studio we have almost same process as live, we are playing with our machines trying different combination, improvising a lot forming a complete tracks in the end, it was so natural for us to make almost the same thing live as Premiesku.
WWD : What are the biggest challenges for you in putting that together every time you guys play?
First of all its the equipment logistics, each of us have 2 cases full of gear that need to be brought to the gig intact no matter how long the trip is 🙂 Also sound checks can be very challenging as where we need to calibrate our sound to acoustics of the club, so we can have the perfect vibe. Least but not last the spaghetti cables problem 🙂
WWD : Talking releases, what else can we expect from the you over the coming months?
We are working on new material, we already have a lot of new tracks that we are playing live so soon we’ll have news for you regarding this 🙂 Keep an eye out.
WWD : One track/secret weapon that’s gonna make a big impact this Summer?
Have to say that the lead track from our 20/20 Vision EP “Jojoman” is doing some serious damage at the moment. Our friends were sending us a bunch of videos from Apollonia’s set at Circoloco opening at DC10 in Ibiza this Monday and everyone was going bananas to it. Made us really happy to see such reaction.
WWD : Before we sign off, are there any other big dates on the horizon for you that we should be aware of?
We are super excited about a few particular shows this summer: Amnesia with Hyte along Loco Dice, Watergate in Berlin, Sonar with Sunday Breakfast, Sankeys with VIVa Warriors. We are also going on our first proper tour in the US in July touching down at some of our favourite venues in North America: Stereo in Montreal, Spybar in Chigaco, Treehouse in Miami, Flash in DC and Verboten in NY. But to be honest we generally look forward to every single show just as much. We love what we do and feel blessed with every opportunity to do our thing!
Premiesku’s Jojoman EP will be released digitally via 20/20Vision on June 1st, 2015. Buy it on vinyl here.
