Anton Seling aka Selidos is an up and comer in the world of house music, he has been making waves the past few months in creating some show stopping tunes with the likes of ‘I Do’ and his latest release on Nite Records Summer Compilation ‘Confound’. Selidos has provided us with an exclusive hour long mix for your listening pleasure. We also sat down with the man himself to discuss his latest release ‘Confound’ and his creative process amongst other things.
WWD: Thanks for joining us today Anton, how are you?
Thank you for having me! I’m great, thanks. Been a big fan of the site for a while now, so very excited to finally be able to chat.
WWD: You’ve recently released ‘Confound’ on Nite Records Summer Compilation, how did you get involved and ultimately what made you say yes to produce a track for the compilation?
First I actually sent them ‘I Do’ as a demo track, very early in the summer and they followed up asking me to send them more of my demo tracks. Early on ‘Confound’ and ‘I Do’ were actually in discussion of being released as an EP on Nite Records, but as things took turns we decided to release ‘Confound’ as a single on their Summer Compilation.
On the other hand ‘I Do’ was picked up by Bassness Music (promo outlet) and was later released as a free download on my soundcloud page.
WWD: Talk us through the new release ‘Confound’, what’s your process for creating music?
I take a lot of inspiration from older house and drum & bass tunes. Sometimes I even try to recreate a drum & bass tune in house tempo and eventually I’ll get something original. In my opinion, the best things happen mostly by mistake and those mistakes often happen to me when trying to recreate other tracks.
I was listening to a track called ‘Just Want Another Chance’ by Reese and there was this famous Reese bass that you can also hear in a lot of drum & bass tracks. I had that track in my mind when I sat down and began working on ‘Confound’ so I hopped on the bass and the project took a natural flow from there.
Usually, I always start with the drums, as I believe that’s the most important part in a house track. From there I would just play around with different basses, chords, vocals and so on. However, on ‘Confound’ I actually began with the bass, the pad, and the little vocal which I chopped from a random acapella. So once I got those together, the main “theme” was already there.
WWD: What has been your reaction to the release of ‘Confound’ so far?
I was very surprised how well it was received. I thought that all of the tracks, besides ‘Push It’ by Fritz Carlton, would get an equal amount of attention, but turned out that Albzzy and Trapstyle Bass Collective decided to give ‘Confound’ a share on soundcloud. The next morning I woke up to check the stats, ‘Confound’ was already sitting there with almost 2,000 plays and some heartwarming comments. So a huge shout out goes out to Albzzy and to the crew over at Trapstyle Bass Collective!
WWD: Production wise, have you got anything in the pipeline over the coming months that you would care to share with us?
Yes! In October Audiophile XXL will release an album with tracks from Aaron Jackson, Nina Wilde, Intermodal, and myself. I’m really stoked about this release, as my track on the album will feature a vocalist from the States.
I’m also currently working on some garage, g-house and grime influenced tracks with Turku based underground rapper Noel Kipre. We already have an instrumental down for our first release, so I’m very excited to hear what kind of vocals he will come up with.
WWD: Who would be your top 3 favourite dj’s at the moment and why?
Amine Edge & Dance, Lazare Hoche and AC Slater. Those three cover up pretty much every flavour of house music I listen to.
Amine Edge & Dance fulfill all my g-house/tech-house needs with long and fx-rich transitions. Lazare Hoche’s selections vary from blues influenced house to dub techno and deep house. I have his Le Mellotron liveset, which you can find on youtube, constantly on replay. AC Slater’s bass heavy mixes are full of energy and quick transitions, which are great to get my days started.
WWD: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Honestly, I have no idea. Probably somewhere in central Europe sipping coffee at some back alley coffee shop, then coming home to my 1-room apartment where the only furniture I have are my speakers, my laptop, a pair of decks with a mixer and then some other music related stuff. And empty packs of chicken wings and texas pete sauce.
I’ll be most definitely be holding onto my musical dreams though. By that time I’ve hopefully already played a show or two on the White Isle, secured a residency at some reputable venue, and released music under some of my favourite record labels which, at the moment, include CUFF, This Ain’t Bristol, Dirtybird and Night Bass. Big dreams, but 5 years is a lot of time. Anything can happen and I’ll give it my everything to make it all happen.
WWD: Before we end, do you have any festivals or sets coming up that our readers can see you at?
Nothing that I could announce just yet, but I’ll be certainly sharing the news on my socials once the time comes.
Thanks for taking the time to sit down and chat with me guys!
