WWD: Thanks for joining us Mendo! We’re very excited for the release of the new Toolroom Live album. In your own words, what does the release bring to the table?A selection of the best tracks I’m currently playing in my sets plus some exclusive ones made for the compilation. I hope this will allow people that don’t know my music to discover my style.WWD: What was it about the label that made the release an attractive proposition to you?Toolroom is an amazing label and Mark Knight a friend I meet regularly when we play together on the same night or in the same city. I’m really happy they asked me to mix one of their major compilations for my first release on the label.WWD: Why is Mendo the perfect fit for Toolroom?
I think because I play and produce music for the dancefloors and it’s what Toolroom is all about.
WWD: Can you talk us through the process of selecting and producing your mix?
It was quite easy actually because, as I told you, I made a selection of the best tracks I’m currently playing and all concerned labels accepted to licence them for this compilation.
WWD: Talk to us about the exclusives that we will find in your mix!
There are 2 exclusive tracks I produced with my regular partner in crime Yvan Genkins. ‘Somebody Say’ is a pure Tech House track, but it includes a very funky, groovy vocal that will remind you soul tracks from the 60’s. The second track, ‘2600′ is a Techno killer, it’s made to ignite all dancefloors!
WWD: What have your highlights been from the Summer months?
No less than 13 gigs in Ibiza! At Sankeys for Reverse parties, Blue Marlin, Space for Lovin Ibiza Festival, Raw Change, Hard Rock Hotel, Dunes and Ibiza Global Radio boat parties with my friend David Moreno. But also our weekly residency with my label Clarisse on his radio every Wednesday 23:00 CET with mixes from DJs from our booking roster and amazing gigs and festivals in Budapest, Romania, Netherland, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and South America. Not to forget our summer residency at Carpe Diem Beach in Hvar, Croatia. It’s been hectic to say the least…
WWD: What do the next six months have in store for Mendo?
Huge October month coming with a US tour, then ADE with a big Toolroom Night! Another with my bros Hot Since 82, Uner and Mr Montel. Electronic City Center Festival in Granada, Earthquake Festival in Milano and Material Night in Berlin. I can’t already speak about following gigs & releases but I’m working on great stuff & collaborations so expect nice things very soon!
