Switzerland’s Alci discusses a chance meeting with Frenchmen Apollonia on the mystical island of Ibiza, while sharing all that is new in the former Robsoul producer’s world. What’s more, we find out exactly what the winter months have in store for this rising talent.
In Ibiza last year I walked in to DC10 for the first time that summer to hear one of my tracks, ‘Rump Shaker (which was released on Robsoul Recordings). I made a dash through the crowd and straight in to the booth and I was really impressed. I was like like ‚ “Hey man that’s my track” – this was the day I first met them all personally. Dan told me that I should send him more tracks! After the summer I joined their booking agency Lola ED.Dan Ghenacia called me one night before summer 2015, through Skype, and told me which of my tracks he really liked and asked if I’d be up for doing an EP on their label. Man, I was really happy about that.
WWD: What aspects attracted you to the label?
Apollonia was a big label from the beginning for me.. I like all the artists who’ve released with and I’ve played the tracks a lot. It’s such a pleasure to release on Apollonia, seriously.
WWD: We’re big fans of Phil Weeks and the Robsoul crew. What are the chances of you returning to the imprint in the future?
Oh yeah, for sure I’ll be back on Robsoul. I’m working on some new stuff at the moment, so watch this space!
WWD: One track that defined last Summer for you?
I played Ali – ‘You Don’t Know’ a lot during the summer and in my car Pharrell Williams – ‘Hypnotize You’ was on constant rotation.
WWD: Have the the last few months been more studio or show focused for you?
Ibiza was not a constant feature of my summer, just a few gigs here and there, which meant I had a lot free time to get busy in the studio. But that was a big challenge as it’s very difficult to spend time locked away making music when the sun is shining outside.
WWD: Looking back any major highlights from the last few months?
I played for the Re-Opening for tINI & the Gang at Underground Ibiza and Village Underground for Fuse London and I did the opening for Apollonia at Rex Club in Paris. That night was really an absolute BOMB. Truly a night to remember.
WWD: Heading into the winter months, how will your schedule change?
Ah man, well after the summer I’m definitely going to spend a lot more time in the studio. During the week I’m focused on my music and I’ll keep the weekends for shows.
WWD: What does Alci like to do when he’s not behind the decks or making beats?
Eating, sleeping, loving and living, Simple!
WWD: Before we leave you, what are the big dates coming up in your calendar?
Well there are quite a few gigs penciled into my calendar at the moment, and I’m excited about all of them. Firstly I’m playing twice for British badboy promoters Magna Carta – both at the legendary Sankeys in Manchester (20th November & 18th December). I’m also looking forward to touching down in Berlin at [ipsə] with Robert Dietz and my Lola ED brother Diego Krause among others… Sadly a gig I had in Istanbul has been cancelled because of the troubles there, really sad for everyone over there.
