Montréal welcomes a brand new creative house, party and label to the city this month as Texture gets set to celebrate its debut shindig. When We Dip sat down with the team this week to discuss the new collaborative project, which brings together a budding group of artists, designers, photographers and, of course, DJs. The guys detailed their hopes for the first year, their love for all things fourXfour and just what to expect for the launch party on January 21st.
WWD: Thanks for joining us guys! Can you tell us a little be about Texture?
Cheers for having us fellas! Texture first and foremost is a creative family; we’re focused on bringing together an ensemble of instigators in Montréal’s music and art space. It’s all about variety, inclusion, enthusiasm, creativity and evolution. While it’s predominantly a creative house for all sorts of talents, it will also take other forms including a record label and a monthly party.
WWD: Talk to us through the concept behind the project!
For sure the scene in the city has much to offer, there’s lots going on that is inspirational but for us there’s definitely scope for greater collaboration. There’s so much talent and skill out there.Such is the way of the world that we often find ourselves competing against one another and bringing each other down before we think of working together. Through Texture we’re hoping to have a good time creating with friends, old and new. Without trying to seem like idealists, we’re hoping to construct an open, intimate, welcoming and safe space to collaborate.
WWD: Can you share with us a bit about your musical tastes?
We’re definitely students of the groove – lovers of four-to-the-floor dynamite.
The origins of our friendship is built upon a love of house.
WWD: Can you give us three tracks you’re feeling right now?
Ooooouuuu that’s a toughie!
Black Loops – Samariter (Original Mix)
Atjazz – Fox Tooth (Atjazz Galaxy Aart Dub)
Fouk – Lefty’s Bar (Brame & Hamo Remix)
WWD: What do you hope to achieve this year?
In addition to the parties, we’ve got a very exciting sampler lined up for late Spring. A quality selection of Texture residents and friends of the family will christen the label’s first release. Keep your ears peeled 🙂
WWD: What can you tell us about the first party?
The first gathering is Thursday. January 21st. no cover charge, no fuss. Montreal’s legendary Igloofest will be in full flow by then. With Club Peopl being in the old port we’re kinda having ourselves an unofficial afterparty. We’ll have a killer selection of local talent on show and not just behind the decks with an array of visual treats too. We’ve got a very talent MTL painter producing the label artwork in the flesh. We’ll also be streaming the tunes live across the world via our partners Audioboxlive.
As for the line-up, you’ll have to stop by to see 😉
