Diynamic Music has come a long way in the last decade. It’s grown from a minute imprint to a lead lighting in the underground electronic scene and Holger Behn AKA H.O.S.H has been major influence on its rise. The last year has seen the producer step outside of his home label, venturing to new lands, where he has remixed on the likes of Gruuv, My Favorite Robot and Sweat It Out. His adventure continues next month with a brand new EP on Toronto’s MFR. Fresh from a trip to Brazil this week, he joins us to talk us through the release, the vision for the forthcoming Summer and family life with his Diynamic counterparts.
WWD: How have you been this week Holger?
This week I was in Brazil for three shows with the Diynamic Crew. P12 in Forianopolis, Warung and Tomorrowland. Brazil is always intense for me. One of the best countries to perform in for sure as they are just crazy music lovers.
WWD: Are you busying getting prepped for the Summer months?
Yes, summer is coming crazy close. I am in Ibiza for a couple weeks now already and kinda enjoy that it’s still quiet before the madness flies in.
WWD: You’re back featuring on My Favorite Robot in May after remixing Kenny Glasgow this month. What can you tell us about the new EP?
It was time for me to spread my wings a bit besides Diynamic and I had the urge to release something different from the usual H.O.S.H. stuff. The tracks have all been written in my former studio in Madrid and were some of the last tracks I did there. That’s why the EP is called “End Of A Chapter“. However, I felt really good in that place in Madrid and I think you can hear this in the tracks.
WWD: What was it about MFR as a label that attracted you?
Jared from MFR and me became friends two summers ago in Ibiza when he played for me on one of my boat parties. The label I support for many years and I give them the highest respect for being so diverse and open to all kinds of different music. There is still a line somehow though and I had the feeling that these new tracks of mine could be a perfect match. It seems they are. I am very happy about this.
WWD: You’ve been busy release-wise since the beginning of 2016. Is that the product of long hours in the studio? Are you in studio on a weekly basis?
Yes, I had some not so cool experience besides producing in 2015 that made it impossible for me to let my creativity flow. There was just so much other stuff on my mind. At one point I made some major decisions for myself and with these decisions also my creativity and enthusiasm came back. And somehow more than ever I am super confident and just do what I do. It’s a new born freedom that I really enjoy in the studio.
WWD: Would you see yourself as someone who enjoys working or do you need a balance to keep you fresh and motivated?
I enjoy working but my private life is at least equally important to me. I love my wife a lot and she gives me a lot of balance. Sport is also good for sure, but I am a pro in loosing this a bit and it is always hard to get back to it. I guess many have experienced this themselves.
WWD: Where’s H.O.S.H’s favourite place to catch some sun over the Summer season?
Thats easy, it’s definitely in Ibiza!
WWD: What can you tell us about this year’s Diynamic Festival? Are you guys making any changes to the format?
The main planning is taken care of by the label and booking team in the office, but I like the development that we run a few Diynamic Festivals besides the first one in Holland by now. All of us love them and we all appreciate that we achieved this as a label. It´s amazing and beyond anything we ever expected.
WWD: You’ve increased the size of the Diynamic family this year with releases like the Four To The Floor VA, did you guys feel the time was right to welcome new artists to the family?
As you know we are a label that’s focusing on building the artist on long term. The problem is we have so many artists by now that it’s tough to release anything besides those mainstay artists – but we still get a lot of cool demos. That was the idea behind this new series.
WWD: Have you been able to keep the strong family vibe and familiarity from when you started?
Definitely. I mean as we all grew in the past 10 years, we are all much more often on the road because of our heavy touring schedules. It’s not always easy to keep up the communication like it was when we were seeing each other in person on a daily level. But like every other good intact family we take the challenges and make the right moves that hold the family together.
WWD: What’s the most outrageous idea or concept someone has brought up at a Diynamic meeting?
Well, we like to joke around a lot. I cannot think of some really crazy idea right now after this long weekend to be honest (laughs), but it’s probably one Dj Phono had.
WWD: Have you guys thought about where you’d like to bring the label over the next few years?
We wanna keep on building the artists that we have and like from the beginning release amazing music. And for sure keep up this cool family vibe and personal relationships we build.
WWD: Before we let you go, what else can we expect from you over the next few months?
The EP on MFR marks the peak of my creative release flow of the last months. Now I started working on an album format project which is a bit off the usual artist albums you know. I will reveal more details when the time is right. Thanks for the interview guys!
