Totally worth your attention, this beauty of an EP, or, as Crosstown Rebels is calling it: ‘an atomic bomb of an EP’, just came out last Friday (May the 13th) and impressions couldn’t be better.
Gorgon City turns into a little bit more underground direction than usual and proves its versatility and multiple production skills with not one, but two incredible tunes here. And they’re not alone in this… As they get to debut at magnificent Damian Lazarus’ imprint, they’re joined by a tech house heavyweight who’s also the guy behind Snatch! Records. We’re talking about no other than Riva Starr and that seems to be big enough… No? All right, so how about a grammy-winning DJ and producer for another wicked remix? There you have it! David Morales comes aboard with his techy ‘Red Zone Mix’. Pretty much everything you might expect from an outstanding release is found here, strengthening this label’s tradition of superb quality deliveries. Enough talking, on to the music!
A1 – Money (Original Mix) → Groovy, powerfull and bass driven. The kind of sound that truly is Gorgon City’s trademark. A full force track that brilliantly gives title to this remarkable EP. Dancefloor oriented, bringing solid beats, it is unquestioningly a ‘peak time set’ weapon! One just can’t help but move his or her body to this. Tech House at its finest, this is some seriously decent piece of club music.
A2 – Money (David Morales Red Zone Mix) → “Red Zone Mix” could also be read as “Power Techno Mix” if legendary David Morales wanted so. Highly energetic, it brings both a long beat-less introduction and breakdown that properly build up the pressure, setting the ground for the drop of a thumping bassline that alongside hard hitting drums, skipping hi-hats and a rather bassy synth melody, unleashes loads of high energy over the dancefloor!
B1 – Money (Riva Starr Remix) → Riva Starr’s music and style need no introduction. Spotlights in this one are turned to a really nice and long breakdown that immediately gets the listener lost as it surrounds him/her with trippy rising synths, ending with and intense buildup and finally dropping into a bit more funky bassline, some rolling beats alongside thudding kicks, throwing him/her into an energetic rhythm. Another guaranteed dancefloor groover!
B2 – Aries (Original Mix) → Deeper melodies appreciators are not forgotten by Gorgon City. Richer in elements, it’s the most melodic one. Some deep vocal samples, hypnotic synths, classic Gorgon City percussions and a dirty bass melody, all united molding a set of qualities that’s not difficult to delight different kinds of listeners as it’s both pleasant and moving.
