Beans & Bacons boss Adam Stacks takes the lead on Javier Orduna and Chris Forshaw’s Nightcolours Recordings this month with a stunning new EP that seems him joined by labelmate Neferiel and noted Einmusika artist Beatamines (both taking on remix duties). ‘Loving You’ has already become one of our favourite Summer-flavoured tunes this year and, catching up with the man behind the production, we got the lowdown on its creation as well as his plans for the coming months.
Mindset EP is out now. Buy here.
WWD: Thanks for joining us Adam! What’s been on your agenda this week so far?
This week and month is full of label work. At the moment I am working on our upcoming release by CENTVRIES, a new electronic live duo. And I also started to prepare our next releases for promotion.
WWD: What’s the most exciting thing that has happened in Mannheim recently?
Based on electronic music most likely the Time Warp. Unfortunately I had no time to be there.
WWD: How did you first come in contact with Nightcolours?
One day Javier Orduna wrote to me on my facebook fanpage, that he is really in love with my track “Sorry”. I was totally surprised that he has posted it publicly, because it is something that unfortunately rarely happens. After that I wrote to him personally. We talked a lot about music and everyday things in life. Although we have never seen each other in person, we have a friendly relationship with each other. To make a long story short. I showed him tracks from me and now I am really happy about the Mindset EP coming out on his label.
WWD: Can you give us three words to describe the EP?
Hope, Love, Happiness
WWD: Outside of music, what does Adam Stacks like to do during the summer months?
I hope we get a sunny summer cause I like to go out for swimming, to meet friends, hang around with my girlfriend, eat ice-cream, or have a barbecue.
WWD: Do you alter your studio schedule when the Sun starts to arrive?
Not really. When I have an idea for a track I start producing whether the sun is shining or it’s snowing. But I like the fact that I can take a sunny break outside, drinking a coffee or something like that during the summer months. And I also have more inspiration than in winter when everything is dark and grey.
WWD: What’s new at Beans & Bacon?
We changed our distribution from “Groove Attack” to “Word and Sound”. At the moment we are working on some new designs for our merch collection, planing some B&B Label Nights and also looking for new releases for 2016.
WWD: Neferiel, who remixes ‘Loving You’ on the Nightcolours release, is a regular at the your imprint, how do you guys know each other?
Neferiel send me some demos 1 or 2 years ago. At this time he was one of these guys who just write me an email like this: “Hey whats up, here are my tracks. Hope u like it.” Normally I do not respond to such e-mails, but I checked one of his tracks and they were dope. So I wrote him back whether he has a name and if he can tell me something about himself. After that he wrote me something like a 2 pages letter. After many facebook chats over weeks, we have become friends. At my last gig in Basel I also visited him and sleeping in the apartment of him and his girlfriend instead of taking a hotel. I try to operate the label like a family.
WWD: Emotion is something that is very much present in ‘Loving You’ and in the B&B releases in general, is that a characteristic you admire in music?
I think emotion is the most importing thing in music. Music is the only language everybody can understand because of the emotion in it. You can cry or laugh, feel free or trapped. Music has a lot of power. I am pleased that you hear that in my music and the music we release on Beans & Bacon.
WWD: Where do you hope to take Beans & Bacon over the next year?
I hope that we continue to grow and our music will continue to be heard. I hope that we can still discover some unpolished diamonds that we can support and help to grow up. My dream is to build a 360 degrees agency with Beans & Bacon that we can do everything ourselves.
WWD: May we ask what inspired the name behind the label?
It´s seriously just a name and one of my favourite german food called “Bohnen im Speckmantel“ (bacon-wrapped beans). There is no real story behind the name. As I decided to found a new label “Beans & Bacon” was my first idea.
WWD: What does the rest of 2016 hold for you?
Thats a really difficult question. I am happy to play at some festivals this summer, for example the “Sonne Mond und Sterne Festival” in Saalburg or at the “Fesitval des Bains Numeriques” in France. I hope that my year 2016 is good and and full of love, happiness, music, energy, friendships, fun, creativity and all other things you need in life.
