As underground labels go, this one truly has got it going on. With the release of Louie Anderson’s Stereo EP last month, this was followed by another set of bangers: a 3 track EP from Arun Verone. This midlands based producer has shot right up the house music ranks in no time at all, with his blend of deep drops and tech-tinged tracks gaining the support of many of the scenes most well-known DJs, including Viva frontman Steve Lawler as well as Hot Creations boss Jamie Jones. Anyway time to get grooving: Myami’s popping off once again.
The title track Bounce starts simply with hi hats and a snare drum nicely complimenting each other, before a driving bassline is brought in. This is then softly faded out as the cymbals are set at a faster pace, reeling listeners into the upcoming drop, where a techy lyrical sample is brought in stating “I wanna make you mine”. This instantly gives way to that dirty, driving bassline which has a certain up and down bounce to it before once again it’s faded out, replaced with some robotic beeps, then it’s brought in again to really make the sound hit home. This one’s bouncy alright.
Next up is Secrets. Hi hats, a snare and a strange lyrical sample all work together at the start to provide a dark vibe as both are slowly faded out. We’re again reeled in as the hi hats are set a faster tempo before a penetrating, echoey bassline is brought in. It manages to sound bouncy and filthy all at the same time, keeping the vibe dark and dingy.
The final track of the EP is Queen of Hearts. It starts with a soft beep being layered on top of a snare drum, where a haunting vocal sample is brought in, before the snare drum sound is turned up a gear and is complimented by intermittent hi hats, creating a track that manages to sound choppy and bouncy whilst retaining that weird dark feel that truly feels at home in the warehouse.
Once again Myami shows us that they are record label with very big ideas. Arun Verone smashes the floor in all three tunes, with a dark and dirty sound that always gets people going. Catch him at the Siesta Outdoor closing party at Ministry of Sound on 27th August or at Sankeys Ibiza on 18th September for Steve Lawler’s Warrior showcase.
