Solomun’s illustrious Diynamic Music celebrates ten years in the game with a brand new compilation from the label artists. Young recruits Undercatt, who have also done damage on the likes of Last Night On Earth, contribute a stellar track to the release in ‘Mongrel’, hear it only on When We Dip today. In addition to giving us the story behind the production Undercatt also took the time to share some insights on the Diynamic family. Read our interview below!
WWD: How are you doing guys? Where’s been the best party this week?
We are doing great. Last days have been very intense, as we are just coming back from a full week spent on Ibiza, playing at DC10 and then Destino for Solomun + live. For both, amazing moments! Then we headed to Voltt Festival in Amsterdam and that was great too. We feel good and lucky.
WWD: Summer’s fast coming to a close. What’s the one memory that is gonna last in your mind?
We have many. It has been a special summer for us. One of the best is Diynamic Showcase in Barcelona for Off-Sonar, with all the family reunited. A huge thunderstorm occured for more than 1 hour but people stayed there for the love of music and when the sun came back it was even better.
WWD: Did you make the most of the sunshine? Is that bucket list a little shorter?
We tried to 🙂 But our list keeps getting longer!
WWD: One new skill you learned this Summer?
Not to sleep much in the course of over 24 hours (no cheating) to take part at the best afterparties.
WWD: You just had the 10 year showcase at DC10, what went down?
An incredible party. DC10 is like a temple for people of our profession. Having the chance to be there with all the family has been something we won’t forget. The venue was packed, so much good energies and good vibes. Diynamic at its best.
WWD: Is Ibiza still as fun as ever?
A lot has changed in the recent years, that’s well known. But in the right spots, you can find the same feelings of those past times.
WWD: Of course you’re celebrating 10 years of Diynamic this month with a new compilation! What can you tell us about your contribution to the record?
Our track for the compilation is called “Mongrel” and we produced that in the last few months, in our intensive studio session when something good came out. It’s dark, it’s groovy, it’s Undercatt 🙂 we are satisfied with the result, we can’t wait to see people’s reaction.
WWD: Looking to the past. What track from the label’s back catalogue resonates the most with Undercatt?
In Diynamic back catalogue there are many gems, but if we have to choose one, we would say “November Morning” by Stimming. That is a true masterpiece.
WWD: If you could swap your studio set up with anybody in the Diynamic family, who would it be?
That’s a difficult question 🙂 We don’t have a very well equipped studio unfortunately, so we are pretty jealous of Johannes Brecht’s, for what we heard and what we saw, there’s almost everything in that room 🙂 Orgasmic.
WWD: You guys are trapped on a deserted island with one member of Diynamic, who would you want there with you? who’s the best survivor?
For his recent experience producing his last album Alpe Lusia, we would say: definitely Stimming! He isolated himself in a cabin on the Alps for almost a month, alone, with no contacts, so we are pretty sure he knows how to survive loneliness 🙂
WWD: Aside from everything going on at Diynamic, what else have you guys been upto?
We dedicated the last months to improve our sound, and take a step up regarding our productions. After our first releases we had some difficult moments to understand what direction to take. We talked a lot, we argued, we pushed ourselves to do better.. and after some dark times, we finally saw the light.
WWD: What’s the next big project you have in your eye-line?
Our next EP 🙂 It’s ready, it’s planned, and it’s going to take off. It will be called “Venus EP”, a set of 3 tracks that represent us in all our tastes and shades. October is coming..
