Maya Jane Coles Returns under Nocturnal Sunshine Guise

24 March 2015

‘Take Me There’ is the first track from the upcoming Maya Jane Coles album under her Nocturnal Sunshine alias. What has been presented here is something very different to what we are used to seeing from the tech and house heavyweight. Nocturnal Sunshine’s genre is listed as Dub-Bass-Electronica, a genre that’s hammered home with this first excerpt. Swirling minor chords conjure up a deep, dark feeling, joined by pounding drums and an incomprehensible vocal which slowly but forcefully guides you through the track. Only at times is one able to discern any meaning from the vocals, as the phrase “Take Me There” moves in an out, hypnotising you. This is a brilliantly put together tune and a different direction for Maya Jane Coles, one which shows that she is not afraid to move outside her comfort zone and challenge herself as an artist.

This album has been almost 3 years in the making, as her last release under the Nocturnal Sunshine came in the form of a remix for Jess Mills’ ‘Pixelated People’ back in 2012.

The release is set to hit the shelves on May 25th, courtesy of Maya’s own I/AM/ME imprint.
