WWD : Thanks for taking the time to chat, great to have you here! Dame-Music is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, looking back what have been the highlights for you so far?
Hello! Yes Dame-Music celebrates 5 years already, time has flown. The highlights so far are: meeting new artists/ friends, working on few collaborations with amazing artists, organizing parties and having a lot of fun around the world with the crew.
WWD : What was it you set out to achieve when you started the label back in 2010?
From 2007 till the end of 2009, I was part of Contexterrior ( Jay Haze label). It was my home and I loved working for that label. But Jay decided at the end of 2009 to close the label because he was moving to Peru. At that time, I made my first album and so I was more confident with my music. After Black Pearl, I decided it was time to start my own label and that how Dame-Music was born.
WWD : Can you tell us about the new compilation and the process of putting it together?
I wanted to have a various artists, including dame-music artists and friends. It was difficult to make a choice in between all tracks I had received, but finally 8 tracks fit together perfectly. I wanted to have a story in between house music & techno. Im glad to have new artists friends on board like Kate Simko & Derek Plaslaiko for exemple. This compilation of various reflected totally the sound of Dame-Music.
WWD : What can we expect from you guys over the next five years?
The big problem especially this year is the vinyl press.. I wish that we can press the wax faster!! I love wax so much, I can’t imagine to run a digital label only to be honest.. Im still buying and playing vinyl so I really hope that the market will be better soon.
WWD : Are there certain goals you still hope to achieve?
At the moment, only one album came out produced by The Jaydes ( Attan and myself ). I will love to confirm more albums but not many artists are sending LP. So I will work on my own album I guess next year, to be continued!!
WWD : The label has a real love for raw, organic sounds. Where did your love for analog develop?
The label is a reflexion of my music taste and the way I’m working in the studio. I never had any fun when I tried to work only with a computer, so I decided to buy gears. I’m in the studio minimum 3 times by week. It’s a real passion and that helps me everyday into my life, I’m more creative in all senses.
WWD : On a personal note, what do the next few months hold for Bloody Mary as an artist?
I have 2 tracks this week on the 5 years compilations ( me + The Jaydes), I signed one track on Sporty Limited ( Various Artists, out 22th june 2015), I have a full ep out the 22th june 2015 under the moniker The Jaydes on Vast recorded ( Rush Hour) with a remix of San Proper ( out 22th june 2015 ). I made also a remix for Silicone Soul’s label ( out this summer..)
Im working on 2 new Ep for the end of the year, one for Dame-Music and one for Upon You records.
So time to go back to work and many thanks for the interview!!
