Underground producer Albzzy joins us this week for the latest episode of Prima Lux. The British man continues to impress with some incredible releases this year and he first shot on our radar with his release “Target Lost”, which saw him collaborate with Ash Lay on Loin Records and he has since gone from strength to strength. Albzzy has also agreed to sit down to talk to us about his music, his upcoming releases including many other things. You can read the interview in full below.
Check out Albzzy’s sizzling mix which he has so kindly provided for our WWD readers.
WWD: Thanks so much Albzzy for taking the time out to chat to us. For those who may not have heard of you yet, tell us a little about yourself?
Yo! No problem at all, thanks for having me..
I’m 19 years old and based in a small town in England called Bexhill and I’ve been producing for around 4-5 years from my little bedroom setup, just my laptop & headphones! I’ve had releases on labels such as 3000 Bass, Audiophile XXL, Audiophile Deep, Bloc Beatz Records, U Wot Blud? Records & SHDW Records to name a few.
WWD: Was there anything in particular that got you interested in producing?
Thinking back, if I had to sum up where my passion for music came from, I’d have to say it was when Skrillex released the music video for ‘Rock N Roll’, I just remember watching it and thinking ‘I want to do that.’ To travel the world playing my music, collaborating with people, exploring the world, that kind of thing! Before that I really wasn’t interested in music at all, but as quick as a flash, I was immersed in it.
WWD: The first track I heard from you was, “Target Lost”, a collaboration between yourself and Ash Lay on Loin Records. Were you at all surprised by how fast that track blew up? I mean when I first listened to it, it blew my mind. What was your reaction?
I always push my music as much as humanly possible, but I could never have anticipated how well It’s done, me and Ash Lay are over the moon! With ‘Target Lost’ I tried loads of new things in the production, I sampled some old video game samples, and made it really moody and aggressive, and with anything, it can either go real well or real bad, and I’m super proud of the outcome, easily one of my favourite productions to date.
WWD: You also started your own record label SHDW Records, was there a reason behind this or was it just something that you have always wanted to do?
Yes! The decision to start the label came to one evening, sat at a friends house, I was eating a kebab and chilling, and I just thought ‘I’d love to start a record label’, so I literally ran home and set about finding a team to work with. The same evening I rounded up my boys Paul Vertrees, Josh Gregg, Will North (Northy) & Dave Wheatcroft (Wheats) and set about kicking the label off. I’m super proud of my label as I put my heart and soul into it, but we’ve recently gone quiet and stopped releases for a bit, and you’ll find out why soon enough when we come back with a bang!
That being said, it was something I’d often thought about, but never had the right resources or team to go ahead with it all
WWD: What can we expect to hear from the mix that you have done for us?
With my mixes & live sets, I always find a vibe or emotion and portray it within the mix, quite often the emotion is anger and it has an evil kind of vibe to it, which I decided on for this mix, which I’m very sure you’ll hear.
I’m not a fan of just stringing a few tracks together and not really thinking about it, I always plan my sets in advance and make sure I can deliver the best I possibly can.
WWD: Have you got any new releases planned or shows that you wish to tell us about?
I have so much stuff coming up, I’m so excited! Release wise I have recently signed new music to Armada, The Bearded Man, Four40 Records & White Widow, and show wise I’m playing for Bass Music TV’s charity event ‘Rave For Lauran’ in Hastings in October, and I’m playing for INDUSTRY’s ‘Winter Carnival’ in London in November with my boys Machaon & Karlton Phillips.
WWD: 2015 has been a very busy and successfully year for you, is there anything that you’re looking to achieve or something that you’re aiming towards for 2016?
Usually each year I’d set goals to accomplish by the end of the year and vigorously fight to achieve them, but I’ve genuinely accomplished everything I’ve ever wanted to achieve already, and could never have predicted I would have made it this far, so who knows what 2016 will hold?
WWD: Thanks again for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk to us and you seem like a very down to earth young man who knows exactly what he wants and I admire that. Hopefully we can chat again sometime in the near future, until then I wish you every success because you deserve it.
Thank YOU for having me, I’m a massive fan of When We Dip, and thanks so much for the support on ‘Target Lost’!
Peace.
