We drop the latest instalment of our Prima Lux series today, just in time for le weekend, and boy is it a doozy! Dubliner Sage joins us for just under an hour of vibrant house and techno, covering a spectrum of electronic music delights. We also got a few short moments with the budding producer to find out a little bit more about his current path.
Hi Sage… can we call you Sage? Or would you rather Lee Kelly?
Whatever feels natural to you is fine 🙂 I’ve often had the same problem meeting various artists like Blawan, and trying to call them by their alias. There’s no way i’m cool enough to pull that off so i just call him by his name ha
So, how’s life?
Life is pretty darn good at the moment I must say 🙂
And how was Life? The festival we mean…
Ah it was sick yeah, I had a great time because the sound was perfect in the District 8 tent (thanks to the tireless work of Colly hertz and co) so i got to play a lot of records which keeps me happy. It can be difficult playing records at festivals/big stages, but thankfully not this time 🙂
And just checked out the vid with you and the techno queen, Nina Kraviz, on the back of a golf buggy.
You gave her a record, tell us, what was it?
I gave her a copy of my recent ep on Tasteful Nudes.
And this was to return the favour, so what record did she give you? Was it also in a golf buggy?! Tell us more!
haha she gave me the new PTU on Trip and that Cucumb45 record on bbbbbb(both are siiick) its a little tradition we have anytime we see each other we exchange records. I think i’ve all the Trip releases now so I’m delighted I could finally give her one of my own records; before it would be some sort of acid banger haha
Loving the new EP from Tasteful Nudes. So what’s your studio secret?
Rum……. hahaha no.. although it does help. The real secret was basiclly staying in, working on music and not seeing my friends. If i get into a little rut, buying a new synth always tends to help, new sounds new ideas and all that haha
You’ve also graced us with a preview of ‘Tidy Wires’ as a part of the latest Jheri Tracks compilation. What more can we expect from you production wise?
I’ve another track on another comp due out after the summer and i’m hoping to have another ep done this year.
Thank you for the mix- throughly enjoyed the ride. So tell us, what approach did you take in creating this?
Ah thanks glad to hear you enjoyed it. Working in All City, I can get my hands on a crazy amount of good records, so for this mix i wanted to include some of the fresh stuff i’ve been loving at the moment. I always like to drift between house and techno back and forth keeping it fun and try get across the general vibe of what i’m about while playing out.
Excited to see you back in District 8 with Ben Klock and The Black Madonna. It’s a shame to see closure plans for the club. What are your thoughts on the future of the club scene in Dublin which sees a much loved club go?
Hopefully someone that is from a club background opens Tripod again, it has everything the scene is crying out for, a big room for the massive acts like Kraviz or Klock and then the sweet smaller sweaty rooms for everything else. I’m sure some new clubs will come along, as the scene is extremely strong for the population of Dublin. Take any given weekend, you have around five international dj’s playing, so the demand is there, not to mention the crazy amount of rising talent coming through at the moment, our scene is solid so I’m sure some club owners will reconize that……..hopefully
And the most important question pressing on our lips… if you were a different herb, what would you be?
Hmmmmmmmm most likely Basil because its lovely with everything haha
