The ‘Nervous Layers’ EP brings together two of the most exciting up and coming producers on the deeper side of the electronic world. Hraach and Armen Miran, both impressive forces in their own right, combine in the follow-up to their 2016 Sol Selectas excursion with a splendid three tracker for New York’s Earthly Delights. We had the chance to catch up with the guys this week as they took us behind the release in a rapid-fire Q&A.

WWD: Your new collaboration with Armen is making a lot of fans extremely happy. Can you tell us about what led to your decision to make this new release together?

Hraach: I figured our dynamic, our taste and sound is very similar with one another.

WWD: It was a collaboration driven by online communication. How did this impact on your creative process?

Armen: We both worked on this project solo, adding bits of me and bits of Hraach. We then connected and did the arrangement together through Skype.

WWD: Did you approach this collaboration at all differently to your previous works together?

H: It was very different than my previous work. It gave me an opportunity to expand and be more creative as an artist. There is always a story to tell and with the collaboration, Armen and I were able to combine our sound and take what we had in mind to another level.

WWD: Can you give us your key advice for fuelling the connection between artists when a collaboration is strictly online?

A:  It really doesn’t matter if the other person is an artist or not. What matters is having a certain kind of understanding. And the key is sharing musical taste. The importance of honesty and constructive criticism is crucial.

WWD: ‘Nervous Layers’ leads the release, is there a particular story or inspiration behind the track?

H – Nervous Layers is the 2nd track Armen and I collaborated on. It’s very dear and personal for me. Maybe one day we’ll decide to share all about it!

WWD: Production wise, in what area/s do you see Hraach’s greatest talents?

A: Hraach always surprises me when it comes to production technicality – chord progressions, writing melody, layering…he brings something new to the table every time.

WWD: What skills of Armen’s were most impressive you?

H: Again it comes down to how tasteful Armen is. Armen has mastered overcoming a writer’s block. Somehow he never fails to keep the project moving forward. That’s impressive!

WWD: What made Earthly Delights the ideal home for this EP?

A: When our track Nervous Layers was complete 2 years ago, the first artist to play our track at Zero Festival was Timur and we were lucky enough to have it captured on video. We decided to release on Earthy Delights as a show of appreciation for supporting us at the start of our career.

WWD:  Hraach, your following in North America is ever growing, will we see you on this side of the Atlantic any time soon?

H: Definitely sooner than later!

WWD: Armen, what else can we expect from you before the close of 2017?

A: I’ve had the opportunity to select some of my favorite artists for a “Buddha Bar by Armen Miran” compilation which is set to be released by the end of 2017.
