EDGE ushers in the 2019 summer season by welcoming Sahar Z and Vic F to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from the progressive house hotbed of Tel Aviv, Sahar Z has been a fixture of his country’s electronic underground for over two decades. As an artist on influential imprints such as Balance Music, Bedrock, Lost & Found and microCastle, Sahar has firmly etched his place in the genre’s history. Newcomer Vic F was introduced to the world through the duo’s debut collaboration ‘Ollie’. Released in March of 2018 on UK behemoth Anjunadeep, it’s joyous, summery sounds were a staple in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo, Guy Mantzur and Khen. Now coming together for just their second ever project, Sahar Z and Vic F land on EDGE with ‘Whispers in The Dark’.
Spread across three tracks it’s the mystical charm of ‘Whispers In The Dark’ that gets the journey underway. Anchored by dulcet beats, hypno-grooves and sultry rhythmic structures, it’s a production that flows through a myriad of vocal motifs. Cross cultural in ethos and dramatic in delivery; it’s spirited wails, tantalizing tones and meditative arps form a free flowing narrative which delivers it’s spiritually uplifting message.
The release continues in fine fashion with the exquisite vibes of ‘Guts Over Fear’. Beginning with smooth bass stabs, acidic designs and drone-like atmospheres, it’s effortless cadence powers forward, while layers of drums assemble in a lush organic space. Surreal and dream like, sonic artefacts and hazy harmonics trail across the framework, before a gaseous interlude effortlessly shifts energy into a glowing finale.
Rounding out the collection is ‘Spinner’ which finds Sahar & Vic crafting their own unique brand of cosmic funk. Esoteric and groovy, it showcases the more techno inspired side of the duo’s repertoire. It’s rhythmic affinity becomes infectious as laser-like lines, percussive waves and a spoken word storyboard unite over perfectly contoured bass and buzzing electronics. Replete with mystical qualities, it’s a heady finale to a stunning collection of music from Sahar and Vic, one which furthers the duo’s studio synergy moving forward into the future.
