Klassified Records present Fulltone’s new “C’est Bon” EP including two massive remix from Audiofly and Jonas Saalbach. Here are a few words from the artist itself.
“”C’est bon’- One of the sentence I’ve kept hearing during my time walking through the inspirational architecture of Paris. C’est Bon (which means it’s all good) triggered by interest to produce a track in a scale that breathes the ‘all goodness’, and that is definitely a F major! Beautiful chord progression and slowly things building-up started to exhale righteousness. C’est bon!
On the other side of the world, the Seychelles blew my mind, especially its capital Mahe. The mesmerizing landscapes of the island, the people I’ve met and the musical culture, that you will find in the instrument used such as the Charango (South American string instrument), bass guitar, classical guitar, live percussions and a lot of field recording and of course my analog synths.”
You can listen to the full premiere of Jonas Saalbach‘s remix exclusively on When We Dip while reading the short and sweet interview Jonas gave us. Enjoy!
WWD: You’ve dropped a two tracks via Klassified over the last few months, what is it about the label that draws you back?
I think the sound of the label and what I am focusing on at the moment is actually a quiet different. But I have to say, it was a lot of fun to produce a bit more in their direction what means for me more organic, laid back and a slower Bpm which i usually use. There is always a reason why you releasing your music on a specific label. In that case it is all about great memories we shared together. The guys from Klassified invited me to their festival in France last year where I played alongside Sam Shure and Damian Lazarus. We met for the first time and stayed at the area till the last guests went home. It was just a beautiful connection we had and so it was with Fulltone too. I met Amr during soundcheck at Sandbox festival in Egypt back in 2016. Since then we always meet up when he comes over to Berlin to have chats about music and life.
WWD: Tell us more about your latest remix of ‘Mahe’ on the upcoming C’est Bon EP that drops this month, what inspired the track?
The remix is absolutely inspired by it´s beautiful stems. Fulltone recorded a lot of Instruments by himself, which gives the remix a very organic sounddesign. I used a lot from the original and tried to turn it in a more clubby version with energetic drum and synth work.
WWD: Talk us through the process when approaching a remix like this.
First of all I import all stems in my DAW and just listen for a while to decide what I like to use from the original. The next step is to clean the project and bring the arranged stems back to a 8 or 16 bar loop. After that, I write down the scale with it’s chords I can use. Now, the the creative part can begin! I start to program some drums with my Elektron Model:Samples and try to find a lead melody with the Prophet 6 or Novation Peak. For the bassline I sampled some parts of the original, but most of it comes from my Sub37. To get closer to the self recorded e-bass guitare by Fulltone, I put an e-bass simulation at the end of the Moog chain.
WWD: What are you most looking forwards to in 2020?
I founded the imprint Radikon together with David Guzy almost a year ago and it’s been a singular challenge, but also extremely rewarding to see the label take shape in such a short amount of time. In 2020 I am most looking forward to develop this beautiful project and release a lot of music on it!
