Last week saw the release of a terrific EP from a new gem in the deep and melodic space. Jim Rider‘s self-run label presents the amazing El Escorpión EP as Signs’ debut release, fit with a stunning remix from Fluida.

Established in London in 2020 by Jim Rider, Signs is a label born from an urge to explore electronic music from across the world.

Jim Rider has been a key figure in London’s Electronic Music scene throughout the years as both a producer and promoter. After an extended break from the studio, Jim has revived his artistic drive in incredible fashion. With a recent release on Lee Burridge’s surging Tale & Tone, two tracks on XYZ’s Blanche, as well as upcoming work with Kindisch, Rider has the attention of the dance community’s most influential tastemakers.

Signs focuses on melody driven house with world music influences. The title track of the debut EP, El Escorpión, has a distinctly latin feel. Wind, Cicadas and the scuttle of Scorpion in the break combine with flamenco guitars and a driving bassline to transport you to a far away desert.

Archipelago is a more progressive cut, with a simple yet evolving arpeggiator laid over a soft pulsating bass, subtle chords and sweeping strings interspersed with live plucks and percussion.

On remix duties for the debut Signs release are Fluida. The live duo are going from strength to strength with a slew of exciting releases for the likes of Anjunadeep, Kindisch, and Do Not Sit On The Furniture Records. For their remix of Archipelago, Fluida have transformed the lead synth line. Evolving from a sub bass into an intricate acid line, they’ve tied in their trademark live Hang Drum alongside layers of percussion and rainforest pipes to create a surging tribal workout befitting the world music ethos of the label.

All Signs point to the dance-floor, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing whats next for the label.
