Sam Deliart AKA Farrago steps up with a new four-tracker on Amelie Lens’ imprint LENSKE. Kidney Shot is his third outing on the label following the very much revered Risin’ EP -which in 2018 inaugurated LENSKE including a collaboration with Lens and a remix by Kobosil- and the killer uncompromising Neontrance from last summer. Ahead of appearances at Awakenings Festival, Kappa Futur Festival, the OFFSónar Exhale party in Barcelona, Rotterdam Rave and touring through India, Japan and Canada this year, the Belgian DJ & producer returns in pure form.
The record opens with Fall To Ruin where Farrago continues to develop his industrial yet trancey production, delivering high levels of energy to the dance floor. The title track Kidney Shot is the perfect example of this intention too. With total expertise he manipulates echoes with synths creating unexpected and ecstatic breakdowns. On the other side, Flavours Of Youth unleashes a melodic cut with an immersive bass. The EP concludes with the electrifying sound of Vizio.
You can now listen to the full premiere of Farrago’s new track ‘Flavours of Youth’ exclusively on When We Dip while reading the short chat we had with him. Enjoy!
WWD: How are you doing these days? How do you keep yourself productive during self-isolation?
The first 10 days of being home I went into a hyper productive state. Did all these things I wanted to do bit never found the time for. I also hit the studio and started something that might turn into an album. I have some of non-music related side projects on going as well. I want to be back on tour asap but I have no trouble keeping myself bust that’s for sure.
WWD: “Kidney Shot” is your third outing on Lenske. Do you see a progression on your music since your inaugural EP on the imprint “Risin’”?
Well to be honest this is a fulfilling release for me. I am very happy with the result and with my evolution as a producer the past months. I‘m in a good place but I want to keep growing and I challenge myself to keep getting better with every release.
WWD: This new record feels so strong. What are the key influences for your signature sound?
Hmm well I have gotten more mature and my sound is more polished than before I would say.My workflow also changed quite a bit over the years. I work less digital than before and out of necessity I became a lot more efficient in the studio. I go straight into jamming and recording from my machines and work a lot with audio instead of midi now. Sometimes lucky accidents happen while tweaking and it’s awesome to be able to process those recordings further. It also helps that my touring dates doubled, or even tripled the past year. Being able to test out your productions and make changes quickly helps a ton to get the best reaction from your audience.
WWD: We’re premiering the powerful “Flavours Of Youth” today? Can you tell us about the idea behind this track?
This track contains samples I recorded over 10 years ago and it kinda gave me this blurry nostalgia feeling when I found that old folder on my PC. I have been making music for 16 years but I never thought anything I made was good enough until about 5 years ago. And now I somehow keep finding stuff that actually has a really strong hook to build a track around. Same story for my first Lenske release. The lead synth in ‘Hidden Power’ is more than 8 years old.
WWD: What’s next for you in 2020?
I’ll be happy to be back on the road and hopefully most of the gigs I was looking forward to the most will get new dates soon… I promise this big break will bring some new fire from the studio as well.
