Swiss artist Philipp Ort drops a new release on Suleiman following his prior releases on high-flying imprints ranging from Kevin Saunderson’s KMS Records to Fabric and Get Physical. The two stripped back and melodic originals are also accompanied by remixes from Inxec and Robert Babicz, who each put their own stamp on the EP.
‘Humans Like Us’ opens up the release with tribal percussion rhythms and the building tension of epic synth pads, but it’s the inspirational vocal monologue that gives the track its charismatic personality.
First to step up on remix duty is Robert Babicz, whose rework of ‘Humans Like Us’ takes a deeper more atmospheric approach with stripped back percussion allowing for the synths to become the main focus of this cosmic version.
‘Fredek’s Story’ is second of the originals, and the shaking rhythms of shuffling top end percussion merge with brooding suspense of the underpinning synths. Dark and moody, it leads towards the Depeche Mode style vocals of Haptic who has also featured on tracks made by other artists such as Marc DePulse, Affkt and Fideles.
Closing the release is Inxec’s minimal rework of ‘Fredek’s Story’, which focuses on spooky atmospherics and chic sound design. Completely transforming the track, this masterful remix skilfully uses the vocal to add rays of sunlight over what’s otherwise a shadowy cut full of mystique.
You can now listen to the full premiere of the original ‘Humans Like Us’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
