WWD: How are you, what’s good and bad in your world?
In this current moment it is not easy to say “all good” but it is important to get the positive things that this experience is teaching us, in order to be ready for a new start.
WWD: How much has lockdown affected you? Have you been creative, learnt new skills, or just taken time off?
The lockdown has been an event that I never thought of living from one day to another, and I can say that it had an important effect on me split into two steps.Initially I felt the need to stop all the crazy rhythm that had taken a dominant role in daily life of recent years and I decided to completely unplug it, but thanks to that moment I felt the old creative spirit come back to me in a context where the passion for music and the love for life became the first focus by giving space to new projects including “Impress Music”, the record label of the Impress Berlin concept.
WWD: When you write music, where do you start? Do you have a certain club or party in mind, or do you start just by experimenting with sound?
I am a lover of sound research, I can get the real inspiration only by experiencing sound in search of something that excites me.
WWD: Do you have favourite bits of studio gear that define your sound? Are you a hardware or software person?
I don’t think there is a real distinction of hardware or software person nowadays as each composer uses hardwares and virtual instruments together at the same time according to the needs and functionality of the element itself .. I am one of those.
WWD: When will your Impress night at Watergate return do you think
I would really love to answer “as soon as possible” but the most important thing now is the safety and health of people. For this reason the start of the label will allow us to continue to enjoy the impress experience waiting for the return to Watergate.
WWD: What has been the best thing about running that party? What have been some highlights?
The best things have been to grow in a creative relation by offering opportunities to the artists who had something to express and consolidate the working and personal relationships with the impress team. One of the greatest recent highlights has been to bring our concept into an Italian theater for an artistic and cultural event. “Figli del Mare”.
WWD: What is the booking policy? What do you like to showcase?
Beside the quality of the product, we highly consider the human attitude of the artist.
WWD: Tell us about the new label Impress – will it be stylistically similar to the party? What will the A&R policy be?
After over five years of events, with my partners Weg and Dario we realized the desire to create the record label of the brand to finalize our music identity. The style will include experimental, classical and electronic music from the Impress artists and guests who have been part of this project in the years and not only..The focus of all releases will be always connected with our event main concept:“When Art & Music come together”.As in the first part of each impress event, an acoustic piano will kick off the first EP developing into a club mood with the second release. The pianist Francesco Carone will be a perfect start for the label followed by the E-Artist remix..
WWD: What else have you got coming up/are you working on?
By the way of the remixer.. this is another important step which is result of this unexpected creative moment.E-Artist is a new alias born from the desire to spread musical emotions from another point of view, creating a connection between past and future.
WWD: How will dance music be different after the covid pandemic, can it ever return to normal?
Some wounds are indelible, but nothing is forever. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time…
Impress Music launch their first EP on July 23rd
