Propulsed by a bumpy Chicago bassline, it’s the sort of techno track ”à la Paranoid London” but surprisingly, it brings us somewhere else with minimal percussions, synths and drums alongside a lo-fi 80’s chord harmony. The vocals performed by Lebaron are a sulfuric poetic earworm which keeps us hooked until the end.
Long-time DJ/composer, label manager, party promoter, and one of Canada’s finest exports, François Lebaron has been doing it proper for over 20 years. He first surfaced onto the local Montreal circuit in the 1990s, while producing his first underground raves, and making a name for himself by inviting heavy hitters such as Terry Lee Brown Jr, Thomas Shumacher and Woody McBride. In 2001, he co-founded Canadian imprint ‘Trigger Recording’, which was the first independent Canadian electronic music label under license with Warner Music Canada.
François has performed and held residencies in renowned venues and festivals around the world, such as Burning Man, Lio (Pacha) Ibiza, BPM Festival, Stereo Montreal, Igloofest, Do Not Sit On The Furniture (Miami) just to name a few. Nowadays, he devotes most of his time to his Hoopalaï project with his partner Pfreud (aka Frédéric Laurier), which, in 2019, got signed to renowned German label Get Physical Music. He equally remains steadfast with his Victims Music Company imprint, as well as his Thee FFF project, a trio which includes Lebaron, Pfreud and the legendary Felix Da Housecat.
