For the 83rd release on Perspectives Digital, label boss Darin Epsilon draws inspiration from his experience at the groundbreaking Lusatia Festival, held during the summer of 2020 in the forests of Brandenburg, approximately 120 km south of Berlin. Performed over 36 hours and filmed at Wilde Möhre’s festival site, 5 festivals sent a delegation of 30 artists to highlight their own distinctive ethos and sound. As all festivals had been canceled, over 100 volunteers worked tirelessly to create the digital festival fundraiser with the mission to draw attention to the situation caused by COVID-19.
The musical soul of the event and struggle brought on by the global pandemic is captured in Darin’s new original track ‘Lusatia’. Characterized by a pulsating running bassline and driving beat, an immaculately syncopated percussive top-line provides energy aplenty. Quickly hitting its stride, a white noise inspired analog riff hypnotizes with intensity. An array of effects adds weight and sonic intrigue while counterpoint motifs create further spine-tingling melodic energy.
As the first female artist to hit the Beatport Top 10 with her 2008 release on mau5trap, Sydney Blu has been a trailblazer for electronic dance music, crashing through the glass ceiling on multiple occasions. A relentless touring schedule across North America has provided Sydney with a reputation for unrivaled DJ sets full of poise and passion. Similarly, music signed to such leading imprints as Katermukke, Knee Deep in Sound, Desert Hearts, and her own Blu Music, has propelled Sydney to new heights. Making her Perspectives Digital debut, Sydney’s remix of ‘Lusatia’ revels in rich arpeggiated lines that rise and fall in expertly filtered fashion throughout the track. Taking its sonic cues from the original, reverb-laden piano chords expertly punctuate while question and answer motifs maintain intrigue and intensity.
From working with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra reinterpreting Gustav Holst’s ‘The Planets’, to productions for a number of high profile imprints, Pascal Augner has inspired countless many through his Beatamines alias. With 600 production credits for the likes of Einmusika, Embassy One, Toolroom, and Steyoyoke, he has built an impressive career both as a solo artist and as a mixing & mastering engineer for artists all around the globe. Also making his Perspectives Digital debut, Beatamines’ reworking of “Lusatia” harnesses the song’s central melodic trope and adds a trademark intensity and ingenuity. A grooved bassline and syncopated arpeggio creates a low-slung groove across the 6 minute production. Building into the breakdown and beyond, the bassline sequence opens up in modulated and unfettered power to create a scintillating remix of ‘Lusatia’.
