Although famous for his countless electro-melodic releases and his vibrant live shows, Hungry Music co-founder Worakls is a composer above all. Raised in a family of musicians, he learned the piano at the age of three years old and then carried onwards to a full conservatory education – all before shifting towards the electronic music that he would become known for.
We caught up with him to discuss his recent projects, plans for the year and his thoughts on the COVID landscape.
WWD: Thanks for you time, how has the start of the year been for you?
Hey ! Great actually, a lot of good news, many very interesting projects to come ! Apart from the fact that we can’t play everything is good ! I’m very motivated !
WWD: What positives can you talk away from this COVID situation we’re in?
Well, a lot of time to take care of ourselves at home, to practice sport, to compose, to prepare what will come next… a lot of time to think, to be back to what really counts. Covid has forced us to stay at home so the best we can do is to take advantage of the situation!
WWD: Your music is seemingly inspired by classical music – where did this stem from?
I started to learn how to play piano since I’m 3 years old. I guess classical music is something that is printed in me for a long time now. I really enjoy its beauty and its complexity in the same time. I do my best to try to use the strength of it and I learn everyday a lot of new ways to compose for orchestras, It’s passionating!
WWD: You’ve had some great artists remix your tracks lately including Ben Bohmer and Patrice Baumel – how do you go about choosing a remixer for your work?
Very simply because I like their music so we decided to contact them and propose them to do it ! I’m very lucky to work with such great talents.
WWD: What can we expect next from you?
New tracks, movies music, a new orchestra show, some other remixes for my orchestra album ! I’m opening my new label « Sonate » where I’ll release all that this year. Very exciting !
WWD: Are you anticipating things beginning to open back up this summer, or is it too hard to tell?
To my opinion I think we will be able to play a bit this summer with hard restrictions. With the vaccines and masks, I really hope they will let us do some. But most important is health of course so I wouldn’t dare giving my opinion on it … only doctors and people who know the situation perfectly can … I’ll just be ready whenever it’ll open !
WWD: What’s your focus for when venues, clubs start to re-open…will it be more on the DJing or the Worakls Orchestra Live side of things?
To be honest I think that the orchestra live is really the best way to play my music. So I will continue the solo shows but my goal is to improve and develop the orchestra shows ! With new tracks, new musicians, more instruments etc ! Can’t wait to be back !
WWD: We can’t wait to hear that ! Thank you chatting with us.
Thank you !
