There are good things coming from Romania’s capital. For two years, a little known collective named Varme have been pushing a stripped-back, underground sound. Drawing influence from vintage tech-house and minimal, the latest offering on the imprint comes from Buraye, the enigmatic Colombian producer who also heads up his own label, From The Void Above. Time to get our teeth into this tasty four-tracker.
Four tracks, four slices of spaced-out electronic goodness. Ergoline kicks things off on the A1, a no-nonsense bit of kit that makes you feel like you’re being pulled down a wormhole. Frecuencia Beta arrives next, manifesting as a groove-fuelled, late-night number. Just listen to those hi-hats – it’s impossible not to move your head to.
Space Fauna ups the pace. It’s breaks-inspired and features a glitchy acid-laced bassline, whilst reverberating bells chime in the background – talk about a spaced-out dancefloor cut. Last but not least, Stargazing, a galactic-themed, vocal-driven piece that leaves few prisoners in its wake.
To summarise – a quality offering from the Bucharest-based imprint. Big ups to Paul Popa for launching Varme. Roll on the next release!
