PACH. is a young DJ/Producer from the North of England who is making some serious strides right now with people on the scene. After playing numerous parties for industry heavyweight Darius Syrossian, he has recently been asked by Darius to release on his Moxy Muzik label, which he does to resounding success. We spoke to him recently to find out how it all feels, and what’s in store for the future…
WWD: How are you, whats good and bad in your world right now?
I’m doing really well at the moment, especially now that everything’s looking positive for the nightlife industry. I’ve been luckily keeping busy over lockdown, I’ve been doing production 1-1s so its been keeping my mind busy, unfortunately as clubs have been shut its sometimes been a little difficult getting inspiration when in the studio.
WWD: Where do you stand on the playing plague raves?
Where I live there hasn’t been any raves over lockdown, as it’s a lot smaller than places like london, so I haven’t been to any of the parties that have been going on, I have really missed DJing though!
WWD: Tell us about how you first came to be noticed by Darius, where and when and what happened?
So my friend sent a post which darius put online talking about a competition to play for his party, he was looking for new upcoming DJs. I’d been playing in Manchester for a couple of years at this point and I thought why not enter, so I recorded a mix and completely forgot about it then the next thing you know I got a DM a couple months later from darius saying he really enjoyed my mix and wanted me to play!
WWD: You played his Manchester Moxy parties right? What was that like?
It was so much fun when I was playing for Moxy. It was the first party where I got to play to a sold out crowd and gave me so much experience. A couple of times me and darius closed with a B2B which was always fun!
WWD: You also run your own parties right, what are they like, where and when?
Yeah so I started my own party last year, called After School Club, its a monthly party currently in Manchester in the courtyard of the Progress Centre, and it’s always such a fun day. I have big plans for the future taking it elsewhere but its home is currently Manchester! It’s been a little difficult especially launching through a pandemic but its been so much fun, we only have done socially distanced ones so far but our launch date for our first proper party is the 25th of July with Casey Spillman and Fabe!
WWD: What’s it like to release on his label – what inspired or influenced the music you have served up for the EP?
It’s been a great opportunity to be releasing on Moxy, ‘Pull Up & Dance’ was made about two years ago and I made it specifically one night to play in a club. At the time I was making a lot of party tunes specifically for the dance floor. Cats Got Ya Tongue is one of my favourite tracks, as it’s a dance floor only tune and at the time of making it I was listening to a lot of UKG, so I took a lot of inspiration at the time when in the studio.
WWD: What’s your vibe, are you hardware or software in the studio, and what is most important to you when making music?
When I’m in the studio it’s roughly around 60% hardware 40% in the box. I recently got a blofeld synth and a rm1x, and they are two of my favourite machines to work with at the moment. I also couldn’t live without my digitakt.
WWD: What else have you got coming up/are you working on?
Can’t say too much at the minute, got some remixes in the pipelines and a few eps but I’m mainly focusing on launching my own label!
WWD: Do you think dance music will be much different when it gets back to normal – will parties be more local and small scale or anything?
I think it will really effect parties as it’s going to be difficult for a lot of promoters to bring artists outside the UK due to travel restrictions, so I think there’s going to be a huge rise in parties showcasing a lot of UK artists.
