Metodi Hristov’s Set About welcomes an EP from Stiv Hey who is a rising star of the Italian techno scene boasting releases on other labels including SCI+TEC, Respekt, FORM, Codex and Octopus. Stiv Hey is known for his spacious style with stripped-back sound design and pounding percussion, overlaid with trippy vocals and enthralling synth lines, which combine to create hypnotic grooves perfect for peak time moments on the dance floor. He is also known for his charismatic DJ style, and pre-pandemic would play regularly at Italy’s top nightclubs and festivals in addition to traveling Europe as a headline performer.

This is Stiv Hey’s second solo EP for Set About and his fourth release in total including two solo tracks released on various artist compilations. He is fast becoming a label favorite whose tracks can often be heard in the sets of people ranging from Dubfire to Sven Väth. With a fine-tuned ear for what works on the dance floor, this EP is another fine example of why Stiv Hey is held in such high regard by techno fans across the world.

‘Basss’ opens the release with its pulsating bassline and thrashing high-end percussion underpinned by the thump of a chunky kick drum. Taking its title from the vocal sample, the track’s building tension is heightened by acid stabs and swells of white noise.

‘Evolution’ has a dark atmosphere and throbbing sub-bass that’s overlaid with the metallic clanging of industrial textures that spring forth from the speaker. Rolling like a locomotive freight train, its unstoppable momentum unleashes a steady flow of fist-pumping energy perfect for a club sound system.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Basss’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
