Chatting with Stanny Abram about his new release! For over four months, Stanny Abram has been holding the number one position in the top 100 Electro artists, according to the BeatStats. This ranking system has mathematically proved what Stanny’s fans have known for ages. Abram’s singles have been an integral part of DJ sets by global superstars such as Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Todd Terry, Jamie Jones, Stefano Noferini, etc. Chains Of Fragility / Warped Reaction is his fifth solo release on the Munich-based label ZEN DNA, and it represents the artist’s step out of the comfort zone while still keeping his signature sound present.
WWD: You’ve been holding the number one position in the top 100 electro artists in the world for over four months. Also, Carl Cox has recently included your track Unfolding Morphism in his set of classic singles during his Residency on BBC Radio How did that change your daily routine?
First of all, it is an honor to be played by Carl Cox. It makes me feel appreciated. Having a track in his selection of techno and electro classics is a realization of a dream. His work has been an inspiration for generations, so having Carl presenting my work is priceless. However, even if I had not been ranked as the number one electro artist in the world or played by Carl, I’d still be making music every single day. It is both a blessing and a curse! Music production is a perfect way to express my deepest emotions. It’s a form of meditation where the outside world doesn’t exist while I’m in the zone. On the other hand, it’s exceptionally time-consuming and keeps me away from outdoor activities I also enjoy.
WWD: What’s noteworthy about being a producer?
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a music producer. To me, being a producer was better than being an astronaut. While the other kids in my hometown wanted to orbit the Earth in a spaceship, I wanted my music to reach the far-out spaces without ejecting toxic fuel gases. Music has a healing power that even astronauts need. They also listen to music! Don’t they?
WWD: There’s an unwritten rule, keeping most producers within the borders of a specific genre. On the other hand, you’ve been producing techno, electro, house, progressive, minimal, tech-house, and much more. How’s it even possible for you to
keep up with so many styles?
Borders between the genres don’t mean much to me, but inspiration means everything! I always let the inspiration take me to the unknown corners of my mind. I like exploring alternative approaches to audio production. I don’t intend to limit myself because of unwritten rules. I don’t care much about the written rules either. Could you imagine Leonardo da Vinci following the rules? He was a painter, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. Could you imagine Nikola Tesla being less than an inventor, futurist, electrical and mechanical engineer?
WWD: Isn’t that an exception to the rule? Nikola and Leonardo were both geniuses! Do you consider yourself a genius?
Of course not! However, I do consider myself a rulebreaker! The human race has a huge unused potential that we take for granted. Most of us agree to live by the book like caged animals. Our society has conditioned us to obey the will of multinational companies and the mainstream media. They tell us how to live, what to wear, and who to hate. Despite that, my music is an expression of freedom at large! It is all about love!
WWD: Is that what makes your new ZEN DNA release significant?
I hope it does! My new material is about awakening! It’s a piece of electro music with elements of other genres. The release sums up my experiences as a producer. It also brings a vocal narration that makes one think about the true meaning of contemporary life. Nevertheless, music is about listening! I’m sure it won’t have the same meaning for other people as it does for me.
