Referred to by many as a pioneer of Melodic House & Techno and Progressive House, the former Chicago native, turned Berliner and now Katermukke staple, Darin Epsilon, records the next installment of the ‘We Are Katermukke’ Spotify mix series.
As a festival headliner, Epsilon is no stranger to the big time, having performed at over 7 major festivals for North America’s biggest promoter Insomniac. The hitmaker has taken over the decks from industry giants like John Digweed, Sasha, and Nick Warren at other major festivals including Ultra Music Festival, Burning Man, BPM Festival, and South By Southwest (SXSW) whilst also appearing on many of the industry’s leading imprints including Einmusika, Renaissance, Warung Recordings, Selador, Parquet Recordings, and Sudbeat, plus his own label, Perspectives Digital.
His latest mix serves as a new benchmark for the series, which revives, celebrates, and dignifies the very essence of the Berlin sound. Compilation highlights include cuts from (in alphabetical order) Dirty Doering, Einmusik, Fat Sushi, Florian Kruse, Kollektiv Ost, Lake Avalon, Magit Cacoon, Marc DePulse, PAJI, Sam Shure, and Sydney Blu, to name but a few.
Clocking in at 125 minutes, the 28 tracks selected for Darin’s mix represent the finest that the Katermukke back catalog has to offer. Established in 2011 by Dirty Doering and Sascha Cawa, the iconic label is closely tied to the legendary Kater Blau club and is considered one of the most successful names in the world for all things House & Techno.
2021 has witnessed many of Epsilon’s numerous productions on Katermukke, Desert Hearts Black, and Timeless Moment enter the Beatport charts, racking up even more Top 10’s. A recent new direction in sound has seen him collaborating alongside Sebastien Leger, Fur Coat, Hernan Cattaneo, Sydney Blu, and Miss Monique.
With the summer drawing to a close, he reflects back on the current situation and past few months: “It’s been an absolutely turbulent year and the most challenging time ever for our industry, particularly for artists and musicians. Many of us have been perfecting and honing our craft for over a decade and don’t have a back-up plan, since music is all that we know. I’ve managed to remain focused somehow and released 12 times throughout the pandemic.
Katermukke is really one of my all-time favorite labels and it was such an honor to do a full-length DJ mix for them. Much love to their team for believing in me! Hopefully everyone enjoys listening to the mix as much as I enjoyed putting it together.”
