When Ali Khalaj a.k.a Namito first set foot into a music studio in the early 90s, he could already look back on an incredible life journey: Less than ten years had passed since he had left his war-torn home of Teheran in Iran to escape the military draft and live with his uncle in West-Berlin, where he joined an Osho commune, became a resident DJ at their on-site club Far Out and, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, had fallen head over heels for a new sound called techno. Little did he know, that he’d turn his passion for electronic dance music into an international career as DJ and producer spanning more than 25 years.
‘Namito 25Y’ celebrates Namito’s quarter-of-a-century run as a producer in the form of a 12-track remix album. Fellow producers Pan-Pot, Martin Eyerer, Eric Volta, Sabo, Nesa Azadikhah, Niki Sadeki, Gulia Loy, Ali Farahani, Sam Farsio & Bachir Salloum, Sangeet and Borella, and Namito himself each chose one track from his extensive discography: from his early trance-infused releases on labels like Ninetysix Sounds and MFS to his later more minimalist and tech house-leaning output on Kling Klong or Systematic. The result is a musical journey akin to Namito’s journey as a producer. ‘Namito 25Y’ traverses pummeling big room techno, ecstatic italo disco, slow, brooding house, chilled electronica, and wide-eyed trance inducers.
You can now listen to the full premiere of Pan-Pot‘s remix exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
