For the first release of Sasha Carassi‘s new label ILINX, the Italian producer teamed up with the talented singer Eleonora. Sasha’s recognizable sound stands up at first listen of ‘Blackness’ which he wanted to present in three different versions, showing the whole inspiration process he has had in the last year, not defining himself with a proper genre. Eleonora’s elegant and powerful voice, mixed up with Sasha’s captivating and rolling sound, makes ‘Blackness’ a wonderful and dreamlike journey. You can now listen to the full premiere of the ‘SC’s Dub’ version exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
WWD: Hello Sasha, a pleasure to have you with us today featuring the debut of your new label ILINX. What can you tell about it?
Hello everybody, it’s a pleasure for me too to speak with you today especially regarding this my new journey, of which I’m really glad. ILINX was born from my necessity to express my musical vision. It represents the “NEW ME” and tI want to base it on on free expression, with no schemes, no rules and not following the usual stereotypes. It won’t release only one genre but everything I love and that excites me. Hope you appreciate it!
WWD: For the first release you have teamed up with the talented singer Eleonora. How was this collaboration born?
The collaboration was born because I was working to a remix, in where she is the singer and I was fascinated by her voice, incredibly powerful and elegant at the same time. So, we kept in touch and then decided for a collaboration, finding from the beginning a great feeling.
WWD: What do you want represent with ‘Blackness’?
‘Blackness’ is presented in three different versions and through them I want surely to convey everything I want to base ILINX on. I want to show the whole creative process I have had in the last year not defining myself with a proper genre.
WWD: When was the first time that you realized that you liked electronic music?
The music was around me and I was fascinated by everything I listened and I watched, from the radio to music videos on MTV. I was amazed at the parties organized by my older cousins at home and there I realized the music was going to be my job. But I remember a particular episode that definitely settled me in electronic music: it was 1993 and I was at Cocoricò, the Dj played 20Hz’s Capricorn and I was really hypnotized.
WWD: Your career has spanned over 20 years, what do you believe has been the key components to the longevity of your career? How important is it for you to be able to alter your style with current trends?
The key to longevity in every kind of career is “never give up” , but I realize for an artist it isn’t so easy. There are a lot of ups and downs, moments of great inspiration but also a bit of luck. I can say, by my side, I’ve always been original and I’ve tried to be recognizable in my productions with trandmarck touches, so I don’t follow the current trends but only my emotions and what I like during my creative process.
WWD: You have released tracks on Diynamic, Drumcode, Bedrock, Atlant, Renaissance, IAMHER… Are there any that you remember particularly?
All the releases are very special because each of them represents my creative process and first of all my emotions but I’m especially connected to two of them: my Drumcode in 2010 and the “Picture” on Diynamic in 2019. The first one is the symbol of my “consecration” in the Techno scene and the second one is the image of my new musical direction.
WWD: What are your favourite bits of equipment to use at the moment?
I have collected a lot of gear but my favorite synths are the Moog Sub 37, the Arturia Matrixbrut and the Korg Minilogue . I don’t use a mixer or analog compressor but a lot of VST such as Arturia V Collection, Waves and Roland Clouds . Regarding the monitors I’m a big Adam fan , my references are Adam A7x and A8x.
WWD: What else are you working on?
I’ve a lot of stuff to show you, hope you will appreciate my new releases on label such as Knee Deep In Sound, Bedrock, ILINX obviously and several remixes, an upcoming one on Sincopat.
WWD: Thank you very much for staying with us today and congrats for your new label ILINX. To finish, we’ve read you are an avid vinyl collector. What pushed your love for vinyl? What sort of records would we find in your collection?
When I was little more than a child, I was fascinated by my cousins’ vinyl collection, I loved digging the electronic records especially and during my adolescence I started to collect the vinyl spending all the money I had. Now in my collection you can find from the classical music records to the most weird electronic music. I enjoyed answering to your questions, hope to see you soon!
