Angel Moraes’s ‘Harmony’ featuring Tonia was a beautiful house track nearing completion. Sadly, Angel passed before it was finished. Griffintown Records still wanted to release the track and so label owner Kirk Coleman decided to reach out to producer friends to get it finished and then release it in time for Xmas and give 100% of all proceeds back to Angel’s family estate.
For those who did not know, Angel was a legendary house producer, master of sound, sound systems and founder of legendary Montreal after-hours club Stereo. A teenager who first got his love of dance music at the Paradise Garage, he never looked back.
Up first is Roger Sanchez with big drums and intense synth work but the fantastic vocal taking centre stage. After his dub version comes a Shetlon Cooper & Frank Turgeon Origins Remix that is heavy and tribal, with chunky drums making a big impact before the vocal comes in and brings the sweet tones.
‘Harmony (Jimmy Be Remix)’ is stripped back and well swung with hints of early US garage and a darker vibe, then ‘Harmony (Danny Morales – Back From Stereo Remix)’ is a colourful cut with lively, bright synths and plenty of soulful warmth for more cosy floors. Alain Vinet remixes the track into something deep and smooth for the late-night hours with plenty of cosmic synths and last of all, Manny Ward layers in big basslines, fiery vocals and swinging drums designed to get the club going.
This is a great tribute to the late talents of Angel Moraes. You can now listen to the full premiere of Roger Sanchez’s remix exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
