Manda Moor is a Danish/Filipino producer and DJ based in Paris. Her unique productions and DJ sets are somewhere between House and Techno, groove and tech infused, influenced by the House of Chicago from the 80s / 90s.
She’s a regular at respected gatherings like Amnesia Ibiza for Luciano’s VGBDOS, The BPM Festival, The Warehouse Project, LWE, Elrow, Kaluki and radio shows for Circoloco, Ibiza Global, Beatport, DJ Mag, FG.
Her driving, eclectic sets have mesmerized crowds worldwide, while sharing lineups with the big players such as Jamie Jones, Marco Carola, Paul Johnson, DJ Sneak, Joseph Capriati…
Her releases on Tamango, Kaluki, Dj Pierre’s Afro Acid, Under No Illusion and Voyeur have constantly reached the chart summits, on top of being played by the greatest names of the sector. Moreover, she launched MOOD EDITS with Sirus Hood, a remarkable concept of limited series of edits repeatedly supported by the heavy weights of the scene like The Martinez Brothers, Pete Tong, Loco Dice and Seth Troxler. The charts don’t lie: MOOD EDITS have been ranked #1 House/Deep House/Minimal on Bandcamp for every release. All eyes are on her ascension, the tone is definitely set for a bright future.
WWD: Hey Manda Moor, introduce yourself to us and tell us about how your start to 2022 has been?
Hey hey! I’m Manda, a half Danish and half Filipino sound curator and producer living in Paris. You may know me for my Mood Edits, or some of my releases on Kaluki, Tamango or Afro Acid. So far 2022 has been really good, many good news and blessings have come to me, and I’m very much looking forward to the rest of this special year.
WWD: What have been the most important moments and milestones in it so far to get you where you are?
2019 was the year I travelled to Chicago and met with some of the House legends. This lit a fire within me to learn to produce consistently. That year I had my first key bookings, at Rex Club & Amnesia Ibiza. The year after I released my first EP on Kaluki (which did a #1 on Beatport Minimal Deep Tech, and it was the first #1 of the label), then I did my first remixes, released another EP on DJ Pierre’s label, and got into my first and current booking agency which I love. Everything was set for me to start touring but the pandemic happened.
It was a curse and a blessing at the same time. A curse for the obvious reasons being not being able to gather anymore, and a blessing because without Covid I most probably would have never started Mood Edits with Sirus Hood.
Mood Edits is a concept of limited series of Edits on Bandcamp only. Once a month we put out edits, then we delete the previous volumes on the same day. Many of my edits like « slow touch » gained much hype because of its rarity, and because they were played massively by the only touring DJs at the time (The Martinez Brothers, Loco Dice, Pete Tong on BBC1..)
After that it all escalated, and my name was really starting to get around. We did 12 hugely supported volumes of edits in total, while creating our own community. As soon as clubs started to open again, I played at major shows like WHP, Elrow, Tobacco Dock… many more exciting news that I will soon be able to share.
WWD: What advice would you give yourself as a young artist that you have learned since you started?
To take it easy, not rush into things. To appreciate the whole experience and process, and to not take things too seriously and just have FUN. To do things with LOVE and never compare, always do YOU.
WWD: Where does the impulse to create something come from for you? What role do sources of inspiration like dreams, other forms of art, personal relationships, politics etc play?
It can be many things like listening to amazing tracks in all different genres. It can be seeing people I look up to working, and it can be inner urges and moods. I always create when I feel like it, never force myself to get things done. Sometimes I dream about music, especially after a long party. Indeed other forms of art can definitely set me into this creative mood, creating without boundaries or filters. I love creating at night when the daytime tasks are paused.
WWD: Do you think of where a tune might be played, to who, when making it?
It happens yes, when the track is finished I like to imagine and manifest who would play it, on which label it would fit etc
But I usually make music first when I feel like it, not really knowing what I’ll end up with. I think about the rest later on.
WWD: Do you make the tunes you want to play in your own sets, is there a direct link like that?
Yes absolutely, I make music I would love to play. Especially my latest productions, I’m always excited to see the reaction of the crowd. It’s an amazing feeling when other people vibrate positively to your sound.
WWD: How would you describe your ideal DJ setting?
2x CDJ 3000s, 2x Technics 1200, 1x DJR 400. Playing at an afterparty with a view of the ocean, warm sunset, and a crowd of true music lovers, and my closest friends enjoying.
WWD: Any landmark venues that are on your wishlist to play in the future?
DC10, Warung, Junction2, Printworks, Kappa Future Festival, Fabric…
WWD: What do you have coming up to tell us about?
I will be releasing an EP on my dream label, playing at my dream parties. Creating my own label, creating my own parties. Extremely excited to reveal it all.
