Eurostep have made a firm arrival on the global Tech House stage in a brief time. Already signed to Repopulate Mars, NONSTOP, La Pera, CUFF and Supernova’s Lapsus Music imprint, the duo is fast becoming an act to keep a firm eye on. Their latest release ‘Drippin’ features two cutting-edge tech cuts, accompanied by a remix from the esteemed label bosses.
To celebrate the release of their latest EP, we caught up with the duo for a Little Talk.
WWD: Hey guys, welcome to When We Dip. Give us a little introduction to the world of Eurostep and your journey so far.
We’re a Los Angeles-based duo who have been working together on this project since our university days. We first came on the scene properly in 2018 and have strived to continue to make headway with the underground sound ever since.
WWD: Tell us what inspired your latest release and what it’s like having other well-respected artists remix your work.
Great question. This EP was special for us as we had the chance to work with supernova again. After some chat, they had a lot of belief in the record and remixed it for us . As time has moved on, we’ve tried to incorporate more meaningful sounds and records through our production. Growing up on the west coast hip-hop and r&b was a big part of our record digging, and on this record, we were able to incorporate that with a side of avant garde minimalism, if you will.
WWD: You’re racking up an impressive catalog of labels that have signed your music. Do you have any dream imprints you’d love to see your work featured on?
Appreciate the words! We have enjoyed putting out our tunes and will continue to do so while trying to stay true to our formula . We work really closely with labels that have trusted us in the past and take a lot of pride in that.
WWD: Are there any specific records that have influenced you musically?
Watching the genre transform from 2017 and through quarantine has been great. Staying true to the underground sound and trying to incorporate new ideas has always been the main driver for us.
WWD: How do you like to work as a duo? Does anyne have any specific role in the creation process?
It’s helpful to have two brains and ears digging for either creative input but also for reference, as we can come back and realign our focus as we tie up new records.
WWD: What are your hobbies outside of music?
We’ve been throwing some good parties locally while trying to push our local scene forward, and outside of that, we are also known to dominate the FIFA pitch.
WWD: You’re on the come-up and making an impact in a competitive space. Do you have any advice for aspiring artists looking to do the same?
Our biggest advice would be to keep pushing on, and focus on the sounds you believe in. The landscape is bound to change, and new trends will pop up, but don’t forget why you started.
WWD: When you’re working on music, do you have a specific label in mind, or do you just make what feels right?
We’ll typically start off working on drums in a jam session to get a groove going, progress to a hook that’s usually either a synth, vocal, or percussion element, and then determine if it sounds right for a certain label. Sometimes we’ll finalize it by revising certain elements to tailor it to the labels that we’re sending it out to.
WWD: Would you ever consider experimenting with music in other genres. If so, which ones and why?
We are inspired by Juke, jersey club, synth wave, and techno, of course, but we will likely stick to house for the time being. With the freedom of having our own label launching in November, we may collaborate and excitement with different genres for some special remixes.
WWD: Lastly, what can we expect from the future of Eurostep?
Loads more of new cuts coming out on labels we’ve worked with in the past, and some exciting ones in the pipeline for next year. Our own label is also set to drop its first few releases as we wrap up this calendar year.
