Fiona Kraft is an Ibiza-based artist who has received massive support recently from the likes of Black Coffee & Luciano, and in the last 12-18 months has seen her profile grow exponentially. Now with a jam-packed summer gig schedule around Europe, we sat down with her to discuss what living on the island is like, and what got her into dance music in the first place…

WWD: Hey Fiona, great to connect!! How was 2023 been for you so far, both personally and professionally?

It’s all very intense and things started to move very fast lately. I’ve been playing in many new countries, and I have a lot more gigs. Let’s say it’s the year of discovery 🙂

WWD: You’re based in Ibiza I believe. How has the island seemed so far this season compared to other years?

I don’t have many points of comparison because before I moved to Ibiza I would just come to party and now I live in a very peaceful area of the island and I don’t go to party or mingle around so I’m quite disconnected from tourist stuff.

WWD: Do you have any certain special places on the island that you go to for inspiration?

For me, inspiration doesn’t come like that. Inspiration comes from specific moments and experiences… but to transfer that inspiration in actual work I need to feel good. I would say that I need a certain atmosphere around me, and to have a relaxed way of life that allows me to reflect.

WWD: What was your first big memory you have of dance music that created your initial interest?

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was a teenager and it was my first time in a night club. I discovered house music with Dave Armstrong’s track: ‘Make Your Move’. It took me weeks to find that one, and it was at this moment that my passion for electronic music was born.

WWD: You’ve received some massive support of your music from some of the most esteemed djs in the industry like Black Coffee & Luciano. How does it feel to know when you first hear such landmark artists are supporting and feeling your music?

When I first heard them playing my song I was on a cloud… I was smiling nonstop for a whole week. It was incredible and it gave me confidence in myself in a period that was not easy on me.

WWD: You played at the Hï opening party this summer back in May – how would you describe Hï as a venue to any of our readers who haven’t experienced it yet?

It’s really a beautiful club, very impressive. It’s very big and there are many different areas and it’s made to be lost in the party.

WWD: Has that been your favourite gig so far this summer? Or are there any other highlight ones you would like to mention too you’ve really enjoyed?

It was one of the best for sure but I want to add Egypt at Rituals and the Untold festival in Romania.

WWD: What’s coming up for you for the rest of the year, both release wise and gigs that you can mention?

I don’t have scheduled any release for the rest of the year but I have a ton of material I work on, but to finish it I will need to wait a few months before when I take a little break from the touring and focus on studio work. Gig wise there are many exciting things coming but I am very happy that I finally go to play in South Africa.

WWD: Lastly, what was the last track you heard that made you go “wow”?
