For its last release of 2023, When We Dip XYZ is proud to present a three track remix pack of Motip White’s ‘Clean the Turbines’ EP. The second track of the pack is a remix by Rummel label heads Gespona & Djolee, who crafted huge percussion rolls and manipulated White’s layers and textures.  The memorable hook comes in halfway through, then receding in favour of the heavy drums. We had a chat with the guys on the different steps of creating the remix. Enjoy!

“The stems were really cool, the music of the original is amazing. We of course wanted to give a personal touch’ states Gespona, who was originally was going to remix the track alone, but ended up enlisting Djolee to help out. ‘I did a few versions, but I was not satisfied, so I told Nico [Djolee], ‘Let’s go to the studio’ and we did it from zero’ he explains. ‘A good thing to know is that when I moved to Barcelona, Gonzalo hosted me for 5 months which was very kind. We spent 5 months inside the studio basically, a lot of collaborations came up”, completes Djolee.

“At first we tried to select the parts we liked and add more music on top of it’ says Gespona. Djolee adds, ‘And then Motip came to studio and heard the version we did with the extra music and said “This is very cool, but maybe it’s not needed”. Often, a lot of music takes away the groove, that’s why we focused on the drums” completes Gespona.
