WWD: Hey Denis! Three years of Sengiley Recordings. How does it feel?
Hi guys! a little exciting, a lot has happened in these three years, and now I’m releasing a double vinyl with a very cool line-up for the label’s anniversary, I can’t even believe it a little
WWD: Talk us through the names on this release. Old faces? New faces? Are there any standout tracks you’re particularly excited share?
I gathered most of the musicians who had already appeared with me, and on the Russian side these are my close friends (Scru Scru, Guydee, Street Choice, Whatever) before the opening of the label, I did not even dream of releasing them, but now we are close friends with everyone. The rest of the lineup is made up of producers from all over the world, both bright and new names and already established musicians who have toured all over the world. And I’m very happy to do business with them
WWD: And what are some of your favourite releases from the past three years on your label?
Good question . I’ll highlight :
BRTS – Eclipse EP
2XM – Apollo Jazz EP
Corbi – Novel Approach EP
Maison Blanche – Porn Jazz Scene EP
DJ MERCI – Late Night EP
Da Graca Brothers – Bancame EP
Dylan Dylan – Summer Of Love EP
Mathew Ferness – Bury The Lede EP
Awlies & Véronique Samsung – Spot The Difference EP
Naconda – Gibb Street LP
WWD: Do you get a kick out of creating a platform for talented people via your record label ?
Of course, through the label I meet talented people from all over the world, from artists to musicians and label owners, we share experiences and it would be great to see everyone in the near future.
WWD: Which other labels or artists have had a big influence on you setting up Sengiley Recordings?
I’ve always listened to different types of music, from fuzhn to broken rhythms, from house to classic disco and rock. I can say that I was clearly influenced by R&S, AUS, BBE, D.KO RECORDS, Ninja Tune, Strictly Rhythm, Nervous, MADHOUSE RECORDS, Local Talk.
WWD: How has the sound of the label evolved since its inception?
House music was at the core of everything, but later I realized that there shouldn’t be strong restrictions, thus I opened the door to breaks music and experiments, now I’m launching a new series on a label dedicated to fast house music (in 2022 I launched the Russian series where there are no restrictions, the first release was the vinyl album of the group Поели – Альбом )
WWD: Where should this Album be listened to, ideally?
If we are talking about albums, then of course on Spotify or on our SoundCloud.
WWD: What’s one artist we should be listening to right now?
I advise you to listen to the album by the band Poeli ( Поели )
WWD: Have you got any tips for people wanting to become label owners?
Believe in your work and be honest with yourself and the artists
WWD: What else do you have coming up that you would like to mention?
After the release of the anniversary vinyl, I am launching a cassette collection also dedicated to the 3rd anniversary of the label, the cassette will contain only Russian producers, I would say that the entire avant-garde of the Russian breaks scene is collected there, the concept is broken rhythms, there will be 20 dance and deep tracks on board.
I want to say about the second vinyl from the Russian series from my friend Rambal Cochet.
