French artist duo Abstraal just released their latest single titled ‘Disconnected.’
This Melodic Techno dancefloor weapon is featured in the mighty compilation “WRRONG TRACKS” on ERRORR, the label runned by Ruback’s, brazilian iconic duo. The compilation included many electronic music gems from talented artists all over the world as The Element (Afterlife), Maxim Lany (Armada), Mila Journée (Dyinamic), Adam Sellouk (Zamna) and many more.
Propelled by their captivating set for Cercle in 2020, the duo’s productions consistently find their place in the Top Charts. Their music is highly acclaimed, played, and supported by major figures in the genre like John Digweed, Joris Voorn, Tale of Us, Adriatique, Innellea, Magdalena, Oostil, and Korolova.
We had the chance to chat with them about music, gigs, and new projects. Enjoy!
WWD: Helllo Alex & Tutti, we are super happy to have you here with us. How are you guys? How did you kickstart your year?
Bonjour Thomas !!!
We’re doing great, thank you for having us! We’ve busy working on several music projects lately. This year is shaping up to be filled with new releases, thrilling gigs, and unexpected surprises!
Our year got off to an amazing start with the release of our single “Disconnected” on ERRORR, a collaboration with our dear friend Jas/t. This track has been making waves on the dancefloor, and you premiered it! We’re confident in its ability to captivate the crowd; every time we’ve played it, the reaction has been phenomenal. The epic break builds anticipation, and party peoples can hardly wait for the drop!
We’re happy about our collaboration with ERRORR, we’re currently in the process of working on new demos for them, so we are hoping for more exciting developments ahead!
WWD: You are based in France, but we heard that you are not living in the same city. How are you working on projects? Does the distance effect your work flow?
Yes, that’s correct, we are based in France, but we’re not living in the same city.
Alex has been in Paris for a year now, and Tutti is in Lyon.
Despite the distance, it’s not a problem for us to work on projects. We use various methods to collaborate effectively, such as online communication tools, sharing files digitally, and scheduling regular meetups.
Our strong friendship since 15 years now, and mutual passion for music keep us connected and motivated, allowing us to overcome any challenges posed by the distance.
Our main studio is in Paris and has been well-established for a few months now. It’s where the magic happens (lol)! We constantly send projects and ideas to each other to write our music, almost like collaborating with ourselves.
Additionally, Paris is convenient for traveling. There are so many direct flights from Paris, more than from Lyon’s airport, so we meet up in Paris for studio sessions before touring.
Ultimately, under these conditions, Paris is more of an advantage than a trouble for us.
WWD: Can you talk about the creative process behind achieving your sound?
We like to start the track with drums followed by the bassline. As for collaborations and remixes, it’s hit or miss. Sometimes, the samples provided are of poor quality, requiring a lot of work to clean them up. The dream is to have MIDI files to unleash our imagination and creativity to the fullest. However, it’s rare to have these types of files as more and more producers exclusively work with sample packs.
So when we have the time, we rewrite the samples to recreate the MIDI as much as possible. Sometimes, certain remixes are true collaborative efforts rather than just remixes.
WWD: So you are working on several collaborations with other artists? Can you tell us a bit more about it ?
Yesss, we’ve been putting in a lot of effort into collaborations because we absolutely love it! It’s an incredibly enriching process to exchange ideas and creativity in music. Recently, we’ve been working on a new EP with Jas/t called “Axis Mundi”, which will be released soon on Unseen Recordings, Citizen Kain’s imprint.
Additionally, we’ve collaborated on a powerful dancefloor track with Weekend Heroes, and special track with Ark Nomads, where we’ve incorporated some hip hop vocals, showcasing our roots in this music genre. We’re excited to share these projects soon.
Currently, we’re redirecting our attention towards our individual music projects and solo releases. Our team & us made the collective decision to temporarily halt accepting new collaboration offers or remix requests. This “break” will allow us to allocate more time exclusively to our personal creative endeavors.
WWD: You are speaking about your team. Can you explain more details about the functions and contributions of the two agencies listed on your profile, Harbour Agency and Family Piknik? What specific roles do they play in supporting your career, and how do they collaborate to help you achieve your goals?
Certainly! Harbour Agency and Family Piknik both play important roles in our career, and we feel fortunate and grateful to have them on our team.
Harbour Agency serves as our primary booking agency, overseeing the most critical aspects of our bookings, gigs, and live performances. Jonathan & Loic collaborate closely with venues, event organizers, and promoters, managing our tour schedules, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the seamless execution of our live performances. Additionally, they provide invaluable guidance on strategy, artistic development, marketing, and social media exposure.
On the other hand, with Family Piknik, we focus on networking within the electronic music industry. Ludo, the general manager, assists us with licensing our music, handling copyrights, contracts, and publishing matters. Additionally, they manage some gigs and shows for us under the global brand “Family Piknik Events”.
Typically, we release music annually for the label “Family Piknik Music” as well. The label’s growth aligns perfectly with our music, making it a mutually beneficial process.
In summary, both agencies contribute to our growth in the highly competitive music industry by assisting us with gigs, marketing, promotion, and networking opportunities.
WWD : What upcoming plans or projects can you share with us for the next few months ?
We have some exciting plans and projects for the next few months!
We’re currently working on new music for solo releases.
Additionally, we’ve announced our own events series called “Based On Real Facts” with a strong visual identity.
The first event will take place in our hometown: Lyon, at Le Petit Salon, the best club in town. The show will be on Friday 5th April, and we invite The Element (Afterlife) as our main guest.
Event here :
We’ll use this impactful debut to introduce the concept to partners in various cities (Europe, Middle East) for the year 2025. The goal is to expand our brand internationally by collaborating with strong local promoters as partners, focusing on sophisticated lineups featuring international acts and talented local artists.
All of this in alignment with our graphic and musical identity!
Additionally, we’re working on our new press kit for 2024-2025.
We’re also collaborating with a highly talented 3D designer to create bespoke visual animations for screens during our shows.
Stay tuned for updates and announcements on our social media!
WWD: Thank you so much guys for your time, we wish you all the best for the future. See you very soon !
