Reculture returns with its second installation of the ‘A Touch of Culture’ VA. Parts 1 and 2 reel in even more friends of the label, to showcase the variety and depth of the narratives from the artists it closely keeps eyes on. Seven different tracks – seven different textures, emotions and soundscapes.
Hardt Antoine, alongside label friends REj and Pattn, showcase a deep and slow burning intergalactic dance of ‘Ecstasy.’ Leading hard with its thumping bassline, flickers of retro- infused synths and a spiralling melody crusade in passionate and melodramatic fashion.
Taking us along a wave of kinetic hi-hat-hitting energy comes from Sahar’s ‘The Last Chapter.’ Playing dynamic in groove, it shakes, rattles and rolls along a supersonic landscape, laced with plenty of balearic-infused acid squelches and an uplifting vocal. Light in movement, it leans towards a minimally breezy vibe.
Jepe introduces us to his world of ‘Binomial Expansion.’ Capturing fast rolling energy with its computerized twinkles, whizzles and whirls, churning and clapping – all elements layered intelligently to keep its pace highly-strung throughout. It’s array of shrill synthesis radiates until it throws itself into obscure madness, tamed by a body-moving groove.
EMJIE delivers a concoction of groove and classic house with ‘Dance With Me.’ A sumptuous blend of a four-to-the-floor structure, with a snake-hip rhythm and a touch of abstractly-infused percussive elements, comes as an energetic addition. From the jolting whistle strokes, to its upbeat groove laced with lashes of infectious sambaing chaos, the party never stops, as our artist encourages us to dance with her and “set your body free”.
Channan Hanif’s ‘Take U There’ transports us back in time, with its clear-cut influence from 90s UK dance music. Here it straight-up stirs nostalgia: the lush, dark and moody landscape is peppered with filtered vocal samples which reflect the title. A perfect play for the deepest, most emotive turns of the night.
Kira Blush breathes plenty of life into the EP with ‘Here 2 Help.’ A tribal touch – this is a rhythmic number which dances, pelts and bounces around in non-stop circular vibrancy, The melody, moving along in alto form is kept to higher contempt with the dazzling haloed synths which sashay up and down the scale in enticing pace.
‘Mind Free’ comes from Pattn once more – and this time solo. Rolling through in fiery form, the track allows hi-hats to kick along the drum rolls of its foreground, before an abundance of synthesized chords as they wail; here textures play hand-in-hand to reveal its glitchy melody. Rolling, grooving and mysterious, the track envisions the mystery – and fear – of the deep dark night, and conjures up a striking portrait of the unknown which surrounds us after the sun falls.
