Rich Ellis brings immense groove & smooth synths to Bad Parrot debut on ‘Float’ EP

In his latest, funk-rich, immensely groovy offering ‘Float’ – UK artist Rich Ellis gives a timely update to the classic UK Garage sound. Using smooth beats and synthesized string plucks, the Scottish producer adds a subtle nod to two-step legends such as MJ Cole while putting his own distinct stamp on the genre.

Following the series of bootleg remixes which made his name, many of Ellis’ previous tracks, including recent singles ‘Tango’ and ‘Breathe’ were certified anthems. ‘Float’ edges away from a speed garage, club-focused sound to tap into the producer’s more soulful side, embedding moody chord progressions alongside glossy, upbeat synths.

Having secured slots at Ministry of Sound, a track on the latest HZ Records EP and spins on BBC 1Xtra, KISS FM and Rinse FM, Ellis’ career has been on the rise since breakthrough track ‘Headspinner’ in 2022. He’s also been championed by Conducta, Girls Don’t Sync, Gemi and Lu.Re. Unafraid to go against the grain and tamper with the blueprint, ‘Float’ showcases just what this highly versatile producer is capable of.

Speaking about the elements that make up the track, Rich Ellis says: “”Float’ blends the heavier side of Garage with the lighter, smoother side. It’s definitely dance music, but I was listening to a lot of 90s R&B around the time I made it and I think that influence definitely seeped through. I wanted it to be as easy to dance to in a club as it is to listen at home.”
