New York City’s Nightsteppaz is set to drop some steamy and seductive house on his next EP, ‘Want Me’ on his Vibe Me To The Moon label with a remix by French house royalty Franck Roger.

Nightsteppaz has been making his mark for almost a decade and in that time, he has explored many different sounds and developed a sharp sense of rhythm and pitch that draws on anything from 90s hip hop to soulful house, deep grooves, and plenty in between. He’s collaborated with house royalty Roland Clark, A&R’d top tier talents for his label, like Joeski, Fred Everything, and Spinna, and has held a key residency over in Europe. Here, we get a chance to chat to the main man ahead of the release.

WWD: Where does the impulse to create music come from?

I just love making music, it‘s a big passion of mine, trying to recreate moments on the dancefloor at clubs.

WWD: Do art, relationships, or the state of the world play a role for you in the ideas process?

Sometimes. But I don’t let politics or the troubles of life get into my music –  it’s all about spreading good vibes.

WWD: Does there need to be concrete ideas for you to make a track?

I experiment and improvise a lot, and keep going until something clicks. It’s good to have fun without getting stuck on a single idea.

WWD: What is the balance between planning and improvising in your productions?

Creating music flows better without a set plan.

WWD: For your latest release, what did you start with?

For ‘Want Me’ it started with a rough draft of the instrumental. I sent that to a great vocalist in NYC named Lachi. She recorded some stunning vocals and then I was able to refine the musical elements and arrangement.

WWD: Can you tell us a bit about the way ‘Want Me’ developed and gradually took its final form?

‘Want Me’  was inspired by deep house music from the 2011-2012 era, from artists such as Maceo Plex and Solomun. I really love that era of house music so thinking back on those times inspires me.

Once Lachi recorded the vocals it really began sounding like something special and I’m also very happy with the way Franck Roger remixed the track.

WWD: Once a piece is finished, how important is it for you to let it sit and evaluate it later?

It depends. Sometimes I work on tracks for a very long time and revisit them before they‘re finished. But sometimes I just finish them very quickly.

WWD: After finishing a track and putting it out there, there can sometimes be a sense of emptiness. Can you relate to this?

Not really. That’s just when it’s time to work on something new!

WWD: Do you find that the feedback of others is important to you?

Feedback can be helpful. I’ve learned a lot from other producers such as my old friend Rishi K. who was somewhat of a mentor to me when I was learning production. His feedback helped a lot in those early days. Rest in peace, Rishi

WWD:What was most important for you to convey throughout this EP? Do you feel you have achieved it?

This release is all about good vibes, good times on the dance floor, and love. I hope that we succeeded in conveying that. We will see how the world reacts to it!

WWD: Is there someone you would love to collaborate with?

Snoop Dogg! Seriously though, I’ve been fortunate enough already to collaborate and work with so many of my favorite artists.

WWD: What can we hope to see next from Nightsteppaz and Vibe Me To The Moon?

More releases are coming soon, including an underground tune of mine which Bushwacka did a nice remix for. On the label, we have a ton of new music coming which we have signed recently from Franck Roger, Demarkus Lewis, T.Markakis, and some up and coming producers from South Africa too.

WWD: We can’t wait to hear it all! Thanks for the chat 🙂
