Alex Medina returns to Sum Over Histories with a four-track EP drawn from his personal archives, a collection of productions crafted in years past that are finally seeing the light of day. The release brings together ‘Abaku’, ‘Furwet Mirror’, ‘Trek Storm’ and ‘Treasure Bells’, four pieces that capture the Spanish producer’s signature genre-defying approach and reveal a vision that has remained remarkably consistent across time. Together they weave hypnotic rhythms, intricate melodic work and ethereal atmospheres into something that feels both archival and entirely current.

‘Abaku’ opens the journey with the kind of distinctive sonic character that has come to define Medina’s work. The track moves with patient intent, layering subtle percussion under shimmering melodic textures that gradually unfold, transcending typical house and techno conventions to land somewhere deeper and more contemplative. It is music made for closed eyes and open minds, a perfect introduction to a body of work that values atmosphere and mood over instant gratification.

Hailing from the Canary Islands, Alex Medina has been immersed in electronic music since 1993, releasing across some of the scene’s most respected imprints including Innervisions, Diynamic, Watergate, Tau, and his own Mumbai Records. His catalogue moves freely between deep house, deep techno and electronica, always escaping standards and conventionalisms in favour of his own boundary-pushing language.

This new EP feels like a natural extension of that journey, offering a window into the creative archive of one of Spain’s most distinctive electronic voices. Sum Over Histories, the Berlin-based label founded and curated by Frankey & Sandrino, has spent a decade carving out a singular space within contemporary electronic music. Built around the idea of music for the closed-eyed dancers, the imprint champions introverted narratives and emotionally resonant productions that reward deep listening. Welcoming Alex Medina back into its world feels exactly right, another perfect match between artist and label vision.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Abaku’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
