After a year spent relocating to New York and stepping quietly away from the release cycle, Coff returns with ‘Waters’, a track that feels less like a comeback and more like a deep breath finally let out. Written alongside Stello and Liah Barrett, it is a record the three of them believed in from the very first session, and one they ultimately chose to release independently, on their own terms.

‘Waters’ moves through the melodic edges of progressive house that Coff has made his own across releases for Days Like Nights, Purified and 3rd Avenue. There is a familiar tension at its core, that pull between restraint and release, with atmosphere and weight carrying the track rather than excess. Stello threads in the warm, sunset-leaning sensibility that has made him a fixture of New York’s rooftop circuit, while Liah Barrett’s vocal gives the whole thing its emotional centre, drifting over the groove like light on the surface of the water.

The result is a patient, emotive piece of dancefloor music that rewards the long build. It is the sound of an artist returning to his craft with intention, and of three voices that fit together far too naturally to be left in the studio.

Coff is a Brooklyn-based DJ and producer whose work sits among a new wave of artists refining the melodic house and techno sound rather than chasing it. Stello has carved out his own corner of the New York scene through his Far From It mix series and his Taking You Higher rooftop events, while Liah Barrett continues to lend her distinctive voice to records across the house spectrum. ‘Waters’ is out now, self-released and available to support directly.
