Boxed Off Festival is a brand new one-day music and AV experience launching September 19th with Nina Kraviz, Patrick Topping, Dense & Pika, Daniel Avery and many other world-renowned artists. The event takes place at Fairyhouse just 30 minutes from Dublin City Centre.
The House & Techno bonanza will host some of the world’s most innovative and exciting acts across four stages in an environment, which aims to fire up all of the senses – one last out-door throw-down before the winter season commences. With huge hype already surrounding the festival, WWD stokes the fire with a new mix an interview series in exclusive collaboration with Boxed Off. We’ll be bringing you all you need to whet the appetite in the lead up to the festival!
Kicking off the series, we welcome Sincopat, Steyoyoke and Stil Vor Talent producer Pete Oak, who joins us to chat ahead of his return to green isle. He’s shared a whopper 60 minutes in the mix. It’s all the convincing you need to catch him live September 19th!

WWD: Thanks for joining us Pete! We’re very excited to catch your performance at Boxed Off next month! It’s not your first time playing Ireland is it?
Not my first time – I played at Life festival two years ago, which was really great!
WWD: What are you most looking forward to about Boxed Off Festival?
I’m really excited to see the setup and listen to some of the other artists playing there.
WWD: Your ‘Silence’ remix for Just Her is receiving huge support at the moment. Where did you put the track together? Any Particular inspiration behind the rework?
I made the track/remix in my studio in Denmark. I actually didn’t have any particular inspiration for this track. To be honest I was quite lost on how I wanted this to go. I dragged in a kick drum and Claire’s lovely vocal (just_her) and then I picked up my bongos and started drumming a triplet kinda vibe. I recorded the bongos and just took it from there with a lot of live instruments and percussions in this track – shakers, bongos, guitar and cabasas and used my Moog Voyager for bass, also recorded live. So yeah, I really enjoyed making something a little different than I normally do☺
WWD: Summer is almost coming to a close. What have been the highlights for you so far?
The highlight for my summer is playing at Boxed off 😉 Actually I’ve enjoyed most of this summer with my family, traveling and just relaxing – which I haven’t done in ages, so this was really nice! Still got a few good gigs left for the summer, which I’m really looking forward to!
WWD: On the production front, what else can we expect from you over the next few months?
I got a few releases over the next months including a Suara release, a remix on my own label, Blindfold Recordings and a couple of others I can’t reveal just yet, but it’s gonna be goooood. I have a lot of tracks in the making right now and they are shaping up really nice – including an collab EP with my good friend and fellow dane, Djuma Soundsystem!
WWD: What would make a good end to 2015 for Pete Oak?
Getting my music signed to the labels I’m aiming for would make an amazing ending and also give new energy and to in 2016.
WWD: Few quickfire Qs for you!
WWD: Guinness or Whiskey?
WHISKEY!!!
WWD: HNNY or Nina Kraviz?
– Nina Kraviz, she’s a crazy cool person with her head up the clouds – which I just love☺
WWD: Daniel Avery or Dense & Pika?
Dense & Pika
WWD: Boxed on or Boxed off?
Not sure I’m getting this one, but I’m definitely ON for this festival!!
WWD: You’ve kindly put together a little mix for us to whet the appetite. What will one find in there?
One will find a lot of the tracks that I love at them moment – melodic, hypnotic and deep groovers!
WWD: Before we leave you, what can the Boxed Off attendees expect from Pete Oak at Fairyhouse next month?
I never know what to play before I’m on stage, but hopefully I will get the crowds attention☺
