Belfast producer Jordan joins us for our latest guest spot on “Prima Lux”, a man who you need to keep an eye on as he has gone from strength to strength over the past few months. Having recently had releases on Classic Music Company, ViVa Music and Extended Play, Jordan is set to launch his own Nocturne label in Autumn 2015 with a six track EP.
He has very kindly agreed to sit down with our very own David Gray for an interview and has provided our readers with one hell of a mix.
WWD: Jordan, great to chat, thanks so much for taking the time! For those who don’t know you, tell us a little about yourself.
I’ve been active on the club scene for over a decade now, primarily between Leeds & Belfast. In that time have played with the likes of Radio One, Red Bull Music Academy, Back to Basics… released tracks on Extended Play & Classic Music Company and been throwing parties anywhere who will have me.
WWD: You’re evidently a busy man, between supporting acts like Jackmaster & Gerd Janson, producing tracks for Derrick Carter & Luke Solomon on their Classic Music imprint, running a weekly party (The Night Institute) and establishing a label. What can we expect from Nocturne as a label?
Electronic edged music from disco through to techno would really sum it up… or so I hope. It’s a natural extension of myself as a DJ – at The Night Institute myself and Timmy Stewart play the entire night so a lot of genres get thrown in the melting pot.
WWD: Any hints as to who the two mystery remixes are on your first release?
I’ve been listening to one of the producers for over ten years… he/she/it has put out tracks on Hotflush & Novamute, and really nails that electronic sound I mentioned before. The other guy is on fire at the minute, and is all over the radio, putting tracks out on the likes of Local Talk & Numbers. Some pretty solid clues there!
WWD: In terms of influences, who would you cite as your primary influences, both as a producer and as a label head?
Roman Flugel, Jimmy Edgar, Neville Watson just nail that sound I love so much! On a DJ level, my mate Timmy Stewart has been a great influence and on the production front Mr Psycatron – Dave Lievense has taught me more than 4 years studying the shit at uni did.
WWD: Finally, tell us a little about this mix – what are we to expect before sitting in to listen to it for an hour?
I tried to encompass a lot of the different influences I mentioned before… Some heat from Jimmy Edgar & Neville Watson in here, some housey house and a good bit of electronic doof!
WWD: Where can we see you next?
This weekend I support Jackmaster & Space Dimension Controller as part of 20 Years of Belfast dance music powerhouse, Shine, and then on Saturday I’m back at the reigns at our own party, The Night Institute!
