Australian producer Lancelot joins us for the latest episode of the WWD Podcast. He is a man known for his creations of atmospheric and electric productions. Lancelot has earned the respect from some of the biggest names in the industry and over the summer we saw him joining forces with duo Waze & Odyssey. He has most recently performed on Boiler Room.

He’s ever so kindly put together a sensational hour long mix for our WWD readers. If that wasn’t enough, we also sat down with Lance to ask him a few questions. Check out what he had to say below and listen to the mix.

WWD: We have been fans of your music for some time now so it’s great to finally talk to you Lance, how are you?

Ah awesome  I’m well thanks guys!

WWD: What got you started into producing your own music?

I started in a band (as every aspiring musician does right?) covering other peoples songs primarily and then wanted to explore writing my own content. It has taken many years and I still don’t feel I’m there at the moment but I’m definitely getting closer to doing what I want to do.

WWD: Your latest EP ‘Mover’ was a huge release in terms of the amount of coverage and plays it was getting, what was it like production wise and can you talk us through your process?

Cheers mate.  That one took quite a long time to get right actually. I went back and fourth through different versions of the track after hearing it at shows. Composition-wise I started with the chord progression on my Prophet 08 synthesiser. The open fourth harmony really rendered itself to an ethereal and uplifting mood so I went on a search for a small vocal. Originally I was looking for a more soulful/gospel kinda thing but then I came about the African tribal vocal and it just jelled so well with the instrumental. The little synth solo was done in one go ha It just worked so I left it.

WWD: Where do you find inspiration when producing a new track or EP?

I definitely start with harmonic content first..And develop rhythmic ideas around them. Lately I’ve been intertwining the process of the two very closely together.

WWD: How do you incorporate your skills as a classically trained musician into the production of your tracks, or is this something you even think about?

I try to do things mostly intuitively otherwise ideas can become quite sterile and ‘mathematical’ if you are strictly following things you’ve learned. If that makes sense?

WWD: I’m always curious to know what tracks everyone is listening to, care to tell us three favourites of yours at the moment?

Medlars new EP on Wolf Music is really great! Rival Consoles latest album (seeing him tonight actually!)

WWD: Will we be seeing you in Ireland at some stage? I know a lot of people that would love to see you play a show in Dublin.

Would love to! Sooner rather than later hopefully!

WWD: Anything we can look forward to from you in the near future?

I’m working on a remix at the moment, doing a really interesting project for a charity in Africa and brewing a heap of original tracks that will be ready to go for the new year!
