Forward-thinking Berlin imprint Amselcom welcomes local producer Gottlieb Scheppert into the spotlight this month with two quality original cuts. Joining us in the hotseat, we questioned him on his relationship with the label, finding inspiration in Berlin and all that the Summer may hold for him. But that’s not all folks, set your ears on a full premiere of Soukie & Windish’s ‘Kindheit’ remix.
WWD: Tell us about the new release on Amselcom.
I am very happy about my release on Amselcom. Andreas and me are already in contact for a very long while, because each of us likes what the other one is doing. It took some time but after all we decided to release these two tracks together with two very special remixes.
WWD: Is there a particular influence behind the tracks?
Both of the Tracks started from small ideas i was working on during long train journeys. So they developed over a long time just step by step untill I really got the right mood to finish them. I like to work on Ideas over time and its nice to see that the label was cool with that concept as well.
WWD: With so many new labels coming into being these days. What do you feel Amselcom offers that others lack?
Amselcom has a very openminded taste of music. Every new Release is different to the ones before and so it is not just about dacefloor hits but especially about interesting music. Also they are a very close team where all desicions are made together. Right now, they work on starting their own booking agency to support their artists. It is really nice to see how it is growing and developing.
WWD: How would you view the current health of the scene in Berlin?
Of course there are many things you can complain about, but this will always be the case. Nevertheless I think you can also find some good aspects and things going on. I think its very healthy to be able to meet alike minded people in day and nighttime. There is still enough that i get from this city and i enjoy being part of it.
WWD: Where do you find inspiration in the city?
There are many things that inspire me, especially other people’s music. So I really like to go out and go to concerts and all that stuff. But in the End most of the time I get inspired by recording stuff, messing around with samples or playing and patching some synthesizer.
WWD: Can you give us three artists we should be following in 2016?
To be honest, i don’t really like to answer this cause there are so many gifted and talented people out there and I really can not decide who to name. But you definitely should keep an eye on Amselcom, they are working on exciting new projects with both old and new artists.
WWD: One thing you’ve learnt in the studio recently?
Get organized! Seriously, i need to get my stuff more organized. I spend too much time looking for something.
WWD: What do you hope defines the Summer months for you?
Like every summer I am really looking forward to spend some time on a few festivals, enjoying some hot days with good friends. The Amselcom people are working on more events and we want to celebrate a outdoor labelnight in the sun. At the moment we are looking for the right location, fingers crossed that this will happen.
