Catching up with Italian producer Pirupa following his debut on British label New Violence Records, When Dip gets treated to the all the latest news from the tech maestro. What’s more, we showcase his new cut exclusively in full premiere!
WWD: Thanks for taking the time to chat! Tell us, where in the world are you right now and what happened last night?
I’m chillin’ in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’m on a little tour of three dates here and yesterday I had good time playing in Black Sheep Cordoba, Dorsia in Buenos Aires and Big Sound Resistencia. The people here are very hot and give me a lot of support for both for my productions and my DJ sets. South America will always be in my heart!
WWD: You’re debuting on New Violence with a remix of Ki Creighton. Give us three words to describe the production!
I really like what I’ve done with that remix!
It’s Dark – Techy – Dub
WWD: You just played Space Ibiza with the Onyx crew, what were the vibes like?
I didn’t expect such a good party but it turned out to be a great gig. I got to play just right before Fritz Kalkbrenner (warm up) and then, to my surprise; I got to play again after Harvy Mckay, just because the promoters really loved my set. The vibe was super. Ibiza is always Ibiza and it will never disappoint me. Magic Island!
WWD: There’s no stopping you with trips to Argentina, Australia and New Zealand later this month. What’s your one essential tip to staying sane on the road?
Eat well, don’t drink too much alcohol and try to sleep when you can. – But you know, it’s very hard being good during the parties. Though, I’m trying my best and I’m really staying sane right now and I don’t do any shit.
WWD: Have you got a particular strategy to choosing your upcoming destination?
Not yet! My agency and management are deciding together with me what the next destination is. We get many requests from clubs all over the world and then decide which ones take, which one refuse or move to a later date. Lately I’ve been travelling a lot with three tours in the states in the past three months and now Argentina, New Zealand and Australia. It’s a very busy schedule!
WWD: You’ve got great experience as an artist behind you. Did you approach the Summer of 2016 differently to past years or was it business as usual?
No, I always approach it the same way. It might be old or new places but it’s the same approach as always. Sometime it could be an amazing party or sometimes shit. But I love to travel, discovering new countries and now it will be my first time in New Zealand and Australia. I’m very excited!
WWD: Is the business/admin side of music something you like to be involved in or would you rather stick purely to creating and performing?
In the past I use to organize parties and festivals in my region back in Italy, but when my schedule got busy I had to cut out that kind of stuff. Still helping some clubs in my region with line-ups but nothing that I’m really involved in at the moment. I’m just DJing and producing.
WWD: Do you get home to Italy as much as you’d like?
Yes, I live in Italy! I’m back in my hometown after 3 years in London and last summer season in Ibiza. I really need to be back home with my family and friends for a bit. Ok, I travel every week but home will always be home. It’s the place where I’m born and where I have my heart!
WWD: What else have you got lined up, release-wise in the next few months?
Got a new EP on my label NONSTOP called “Bless You”. It includes three originals tracks and then in August I will do a release on Octopus under my new dark techno name “Brain Zoo”. Three originals techno tunes – I really love that release and I have been playing it since early 2016. Also, I’ve got a remix to Emanuel Satie coming late summer on Hot Since’s Knee Deep in Sound and a release on Desolat coming this Autumn plus a remix I did for Erick Morillo’s Subliminal Records! I’m very excited of my release schedule! All sick stuff – you guys will hear 😉
