One name that has laid down a huge impact on the current state of Tech House is Solardo. Hailing from the UK, producers MRK1 and James Elliot have been dropping massive bass lines over simplified house tunes that have taken the world by storm. With releases like ‘Matador’, ‘The Aztecs’, and ‘Acid Jump’ across labels like Relief, Hot Creations, and Lost Records, respectively, Solardo has placed themselves as one of the freshest names in House music and show no signs of slowing down. Ahead of their US debut at AVALON in Hollywood, CA, we had a moment to ask the two about their productions, touring schedule, and musical influences.

WWD: You’ve had huge releases in just the last year. Could you tell us a little bit about your workflow and approach to House music?

We’re always on the studio working on new music. Its become a lot harder now a days due to our touring schedule but we try and force ourselves into the studio Monday morning and then crack on all week until we set off gigging for the weekend. We usually aim to hit the studio around 10am and then leave at 7pm.

WWD: Sounds like you guys really go to work when its time to work. What’s your preference on analog vs digital? VSTs vs Hardware?

Analog all day and we always use hardware. For bass lines we always use hardware analog synths. Mainly Moog little phatty, Bass Station 2, and whatever else we can get our hands on at the time.

WWD: Do you guys take inspiration from any non-electronic music? If so, what?

We listen to everything ranging from hip hop, rock, and classical — everything!

WWD: You guys have been touring quite a lot in the UK, Spain and Germany. What has been one of your favorite venues to play?

We’ve played so many amazing gigs recently. Printworks was pretty special. Its so different to everywhere else and the setup is insane.

WWD: What shows in the next few months are you guys looking forward to most?

Avalon in Hollywood is something were really looking forward to because its our LA debut and Avalon is such an iconic famous venue. Ive been there a couple of times before for other shows and was blow away by it.
